Summertime Blues
Marc Bolan T-Rex Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh Lord, I got to raise a fuss, Lord I got to raise a holler
About a workin' all summer just to try to earn a dollar
Oh Lord, I tried to call my baby, I tried to get a date

Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
Lord, there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

Well, my mom and pop told me, "Son you gotta make some money
Well, if you want to use the car to go ridin' next Sunday"
Well, Lord I didn't go to work I told the boss I was sick he said

Sometimes I wonder, what I'm a gonna do
Lord, there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

I've got to take the weeks I got to have a fun vacation
I've got to take my problem to the United Nations
I done told my congressman and he said, "Whoa, take this boy"

Sometimes I wonder, what I'm a gonna do
Lord, there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

I've got to take the weeks, I got to have a fun vacation
I've got to take my problem, to the United Nations
I done told my congressman and he said, "Whoa, take this boy"

Sometimes I wonder, what I'm a gonna do

Lord, there ain't no cure, for the summertime blues
Whoa, there ain't no cure

Overall Meaning

for the summertime blues".

The lyrics of Summertime Blues by Marc Bolan and T.Rex speak about the frustration and dissatisfaction of the singer with his working life during the summer. He feels that his hard work during the summer has only earned him a dollar and he is unable to make any headway with his love life. The singer is struggling to balance his desire for fun and leisure with his need to make a living. He is frustrated that he is unable to enjoy summer like others who are on vacation, and he feels helpless in the face of his problems.

The song is a commentary on the struggles of working-class people during the summer season, and the difficult choices they have to make to balance their work and personal lives. The song's message is that the summertime blues are a universal experience, and that there is no easy solution to the challenges of balancing work and leisure.

I love this. Saw Marc and Steve perform this then they were just a duo. Brilliant.

I am sorry but this is a horrible cover. I love Trex but the original summertime blue sung by Eddie cochran is untouchable in my opinion.

@JustineLaLoba the gesture was nice but in my personal opinion this was a horrible cover. But Mark Bolan was awesome and me saying I hated the cover is not me insulting him. As grew up with a lot of his music.

JustineLaLoba

Eddie Cochran was Bolan's first big influence......it was his tribute to a hero......and the only time he released something not written by himself.....

@Richard Barone I love Marc Bolan and we all have different taste in music. But for me I really hate this cover. But the man in my opinion was a musical genius.
