Griffin was raised in the Bay Area, where his mother rented from singer-songwriter, Tracy Chapman. During his teenage years, he moved to Mill Valley and attended Tamalpais High School. After graduation, he went to UC Santa Cruz for music but only stayed there for two years and left school to start 2AM Club in Los Angeles.

Don't Let Her Go
Marc E. Bassy Lyrics

And I′m feeling lost, that's when she comes to me
Alcohol and weed, pills and ecstasy
Every time, that's how it feels when she touches me
Yeah, before she was ugly, I was blind to see
She was just the realest one out there that fucks with me
Yeah, so don′t let her go, don′t let her go
Don′t let her go, don't let her go
It′s restless over there, but you know they don't compare
Don′t let her go, yeah, don't let her go
No one else can compare, I'm bound to stay right here
Oh, yeah
Staying in tonight, burning candlelight
Kiss between your thighs, got me on my R&B shit
Even when we fight, I show too much pride
But she′ll let me argue with myself, you′re a fucking genius
My gym is too strong, my money too long
Would you still love me if we were just fucking on futons?
If my mama was paying with coupons?
Day in and day out, I'm watching you lay out
My mind is on money, but you what I pray about
Call me your molly, some shit I could say now
Without being away, now
Yeah, let me get out my way now
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Don′t let her, don't don′t let her go now...
Yeah, so don't let her go, don′t let her go
I can't always be there, but I want to, I swear
Don't let her go, don′t let her go
It′s restless over there, but you know they don't compare
Yeah, don′t let her go, yeah, don't let her go
No one else can compare, I′m bound to stay right here
Oh, yeah
In Marc E. Bassy's song "Don't Let Her Go," the lyrics depict the deep connection he has with the person he is singing about. During his moments of distress, this person becomes his source of comfort when he feels lost or overwhelmed with substance abuse. The lyrics, "Alcohol and weed, pills and ecstasy, every time, that's how it feels when she touches me," reveal the depth of his addiction and his dependency on her. He acknowledges that before meeting her, he was blind to what he was missing out on, and now he can't imagine going without her.
The chorus is a plea not to let her go despite the fact that he may not always be there for her. Bassy acknowledges that she has an allure that others don't possess, stating, "No one else can compare, I'm bound to stay right here." Beyond the physical attraction, he has with her, there is a deeper emotional connection. The lines "Even when we fight, I show too much pride, but she'll let me argue with myself, you're a fucking genius," show that despite their disagreements, she allows him to grow and find solutions to his problems.
Overall, the lyrics of "Don't Let Her Go" depict a connection born out of addiction, emotional depth, and growth. The song's theme conveys that sometimes true love shows up when you least expect it, and it's crucial to hold on to it when it does.
