Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she moved to Australia to play a featured role in the Australian production of Hair. Hines was then approached to play Mary Magdalene in the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Hines became the first black woman to play Mary Magdalene, and achieved a second major success.
A record contract followed and her first single released in 1974 was a cover version of James Taylor's "Fire And Rain". Most of her hit singles were released between 1976 and 1979, and included her cover versions of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David song "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself", and The Rolling Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash", and "What I Did For Love" (from A Chorus Line). Her biggest hit was the single that made number 2 in the charts in Australia: "You"; an up-tempo dance song, later covered in the United States by Rita Coolidge.
She continued to record and achieved a few more hits including the dance track "Your Love Still Brings Me To My Knees" in the eighties. "Flashdance, What A Feeling" (originally recorded by Irene Cara), and "Time of Our Lives" were both hits for Hines in 1999.
Believe In Me
Marcia Hines Lyrics

And I'll have mine
There is no doubt
When everyone has worn me out and gone
When everybody's had their fill
He'll be waiting, he's waiting still
And though he doesn't know I know
'Cause having someone believe in me
Is all I need to know
Standing all alone
Is not the way I want to go
And if I get to be a star
Or maybe no where near that far
I know that either way
It doesn't matter much to hi-I'm
And if I'm on my dying bed
And suddenly my life is dead
Away from me
I know he'll shed a tear because he cares
'Cause having someone believe in me
Is all I need to know
Standing all alone
Is not the way I want to go
Do you...
Goodnight!
The lyrics of Marcia Hines's song Believe in Me convey the importance of having someone who believes in you and supports you, especially during difficult times. The opening lines describe a situation when everyone else has left and the singer is left alone, but she knows that there is one person who will always be there to support her. This person may not know that she knows, but she knows that he wouldn't mind being there for her.
The chorus emphasizes how having someone who believes in you is all that matters. The singer doesn't want to go through life standing all alone, and even if she becomes a star or if she dies, she knows that this person will be there for her, shedding a tear because he cares. The song suggests that having someone believe in you is a powerful force that can sustain you through difficult times and inspire you to reach for your dreams.
Overall, the song Believe in Me is a heartfelt tribute to the power of belief, support, and kindness. The lyrics are a reminder that we all need someone to believe in us, to support us, and to care for us, especially when we feel tired, worn out, or alone.
