Mengoni has received several awards during his career, including two TRL Awards, nine Wind Music Awards, nine MTV Italian Music Awards, and a Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Award. In 2010 and 2015, he won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best European Act, becoming the first Italian artist to win that prize. In 2013, he also won the MTV European Music Award for Best Southern European Act.
He was also a participant in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 representing Italy with his track 'Due Vite' and placed fourth in this.

The song "Hola" by Marco Mengoni seems to be about a past relationship where the singer felt more confident and free. He reminisces about a time when he had more groove and personality without needing to drink Malibu to feel like himself on the dance floor. He used to spend hours with his head underwater to retain the silence of the sea in his mind. However, something changed, and he does not remember the past as well. He questions whether the person he was with that night was present since he does not recall them. The chorus "Hola, Hola" repeats, emphasising the fact that the singer does not remember who was present that night.

I am listening to this for the first time. I am trying to learn Italian and I started listening to Marco's song, "Io Sono un guerriero" and that led me here. This song is my life with my wife. I survived alcoholism near death and am good friends with Bill W. now. I never liked subtitles but with kids me and my wife now have to watch shows like that. I was better before so I thought until she swept my world out from under me and loved me when no one else would. She never dances with me but when she will it is a firework show in my heart. Every part of this song resonated with me and brought me to tears. Io sono uomo di famiglia. Io ho due figli straordinario e una moglie io voglio bene cosi tanto. Grazie Marco e grazie tutti.
