Maren Morris Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh oh, oh oh, oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh
Still runs good, built to last
Moves like a hula girl on the dash
She ain't made for practicality
Yeah, I guess she's just like me

It's Saturday night, about time to go
Got my white leather jacket and a neon soul
Once I turn on the radio I'm ready to roll, roll, ready to roll

Feel like a hard-to-get starlet when I'm driving
Turning every head, hell I ain't even trying
Got them Ray-Ban shades pretty in pink
Call me old school but hey

I'm a nineties baby
In my eighties Mercedes
I'm a nineties baby
In my eighties Mercedes

Oh oh, oh oh, oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh
Pop the top down like a summer dream
She's my teenage time machine
Just keeps getting sweeter with age
She's classic through any decade

The sun's in the sky, glitter on the seats
You can try, but the Benz is hard to beat
So, hey, if you want you can ride with me, ride, ride with me

Feel like a hard-to-get starlet when I'm driving
Turning every head, hell I ain't even trying
Got them Ray-Ban shades pretty in pink
Call me old school but hey

I'm a nineties baby
In my eighties Mercedes
I'm a nineties baby
In my eighties Mercedes

Oh oh, oh oh, oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh
It's Saturday night, about time to go
Got my white leather jacket and a neon soul
Once I turn on the radio I'm ready to roll, roll, ready to roll

Feel like a hard-to-get starlet when I'm driving
Turning every head hell I ain't even trying
Got them Ray-Ban shades pretty in pink
Call me old school but hey

I'm a nineties baby
In my eighties Mercedes
I'm a nineties baby
In my eighties Mercedes

Oh oh, oh oh, oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh

Oh oh, oh oh, oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh

Overall Meaning

The song "80s Mercedes" by Maren Morris is a playful nod to the love of old things and nostalgia, especially when it comes to the classic car model of the Mercedes from the 1980s. The song is about Morris's affinity for the car's beauty, charm, and enduring quality, much like her own sense of self as a "nineties baby." Morris compares herself to the car, saying that just like the Mercedes, she is not made for practicality. She is someone who values style and substance over what is trendy.

Morris paints a vivid picture of what it feels like to drive down the street in her eighties Mercedes with the top down, turning heads and feeling like a starlet. She's got her white leather jacket and Ray-Ban shades on, and she's ready to roll. The image Morris portrays is one of freedom, confidence, and a carefree attitude. The song is upbeat, fun and the perfect anthem for those who have a love for vintage automobiles or ticking the nostalgia box.

Overall, "80s Mercedes" is a song about enjoying the little things in life and valuing the past. It's a reminder that even as we move forward with more advanced technology, sometimes it's the classic things that have a lasting impact.

Clever music production: 80s Mercedes = 80s sequencing; 90s baby = 90s radio/acoustic sound of the day. This is how/why this song -- even though is country -- can play in any genre that can use the 80s style sequencing. A+++ for production. She can play in pop; house; trance any music genre out there and fit right in.

Sheena Easton did her early songs that way, too, like her lone U.S. number 1 hit "Morning Train (Nine to Five)"

After losing my wife, and severe depression, I bought my dream car. A perfect and hyper rare 91 trans am convertible, the passenger seat will forever be a ghost. But man, I feel this song so hard, car runs perfect on those sunset summer nights by the coast. People often say, I haven't seen you smile in years. Thanks Marren, the vibe is beautiful.

My sincerest apologies go out to you for your loss 💔😭🙏 this is my only fear in life, to lose my partner, so I CANNOT imagine the pain you've experienced having to go through this. I'm so proud of you for finding some form of comfort in the little things again though to help you heal 💞🤗💞 you have immense strength to keep on keeping on through this life, and that's so inspiring 💯 here's to the 2 of you being reunited in Heavenly happiness again someday and cruising down those streets of gold in your 80s Mercedes! 🚘🥲🥂😇

This is so good. Marren's music is so silky and smooth. I usually cringe at "country" music that tries to be this poppy but it just works. It's got a country vibe but is modern enough to sound fresh and appeal to the audiences of this time. I want new music from her right now.
