Margaret Far’s music is everything a trip can offer including, psychedelic lyrics which are reminisint of a 60’s shroom at Woodstock. Although the production of the cds have changed since then she does give you the same meditation feel of being whisked on a dream in your own mind. Synthesizers are more than present in her sound and new age would be the modern day genre I would place her in. Each song brings something different to mind, whether its on a relaxing island somewhere or making love, each song brings forth the force of a woman who knows what she wants to get out of her mind trips, I want the listener to relax and let their mind wander.” Margaret says that most of her influence comes from artists such as Kate Bush, Bjork, and Peter Gabriel.
Margaret is a long time resident of the east coast growing up in a rural upstate New York town outside of Buffalo. During her time there she studied classical piano for 10 years which would prove to be helpful to her later in life. After graduating from Fredonia State University with a degree in Music she uprooted to New York City where her creative juices could flow openly in a city which doesn’t discriminate. Opportunities lie ahead for her in such a city where every other block is a recording studio. After spending two seasons with the Gregg Smith Singers which is a very well known choral group she noticed her soul drifting more towards electronic music and even dabbling in writing. You can always find your path in life when you are consumed with new and interesting surroundings.
Margaret uses synths and multitrack vocals to convey a sound that is unlike any other. She stands out in a crowd due to her immense intensity as she loops and skips around her melodies like a fast moving train. If you were in a smoky club listening to her music you would find yourself migrating your hips from one motion to the other not stopping for anything, not even a hot chic! Traces of her choral background can be found with even some choir like vocals from the young woman. Far makes herself present in each aspect of recording her cds such as drum programming, “Programming and recording make me feel powerful.” Hearing the drums helps her to write some of her very complex lyrics and enables her to lay down music better. She accredits her inspirations to dance, hip hop, and other electronic music. Accepted mostly in Europe electronic music has become quite the craze in the states with U.S. Djs trying to get in on this phase of music.
Far reflects the thoughts of a futuristic generation taking on subjects such as past lives and parallel realities. She allows herself to be one with her entire being rather than just concentrating on the most obvious, black and white, she paints in bright, vibrant colors with sounds that tantalize the imagination. Your mind will run wild with ideas and emotions that can become not unlike a natural high. Far’s voice is like a breath of fresh air in a reproduced world, angelic and childlike she imitates thoughts with purity at its whitest form.
Margaret Far demonstrates the talent of a veteran singer with intelligent, sometimes painful lyrics which at times allows you to drift away to a place where your body somehow becomes one with your mind. Like many others before her she makes her way in this crazy world of music with only one thought…making music. But I feel Ms. Far has something that many others don’t, talent.

Mixing the unconfined creative freedom of Bjork and Kate Bush with a magnificent haunting vocal style reminiscent of Dido and Sarah McLachlan, Margaret Far has to be heard to be believed. Half Man Half Horse is a track of mythical proportions, showcasing her immaculate technical expertise and grandiose songwriting style to ‘show you a world you will not believe’. Far continues to excel with the romantic serenade, ‘Sing Me To Sleep’, which is lent an extra dimension by the measured backing production above which the gorgeous vocals drift like a summer breeze, seducing the subject to a state of total relaxation. Unbelievable.

Hypnotized by the ocean roaring
Thoughts of you drifting in and out
Never fails to calm me down
I still see your eyes when light hits the water
And I've never seen a color so beautiful
So blue, ocean blue
I keep moving to the distant sounds
And visions of you drifting in and out
Clouds mixing with the sand and the sea
Sounds get carried on the ocean breeze
I still hear your voice from across the horizon
And wasn't that you walking into the shadows?
In time I'll believe it was just an illusion
In time I'll believe it was only a dream
I still see your eyes when light hits the water
And I've never seen a color so beautiful
I still hear your voice from across the horizon
And wasn't that you walking into the shadows?
In time I'll believe it was just an illusion
In time I'll believe it was only a dream
'Til then I will breathe you in from the ocean
And walk with the waves rolling under my feet
The song "Just a Dream" by Margaret Far is a poignant and melancholic reflection about a past relationship. The lyrics vividly describe the singer's present state, as she walks barefoot on the shore, lost in thought and mesmerized by the ocean's roar. Despite being physically distant from her former partner, the memories of their time together keep drifting in and out of her mind, providing her with a sense of calm.
The imagery in the song is striking, as the singer recalls the beautiful blue color of her lover's eyes and the sound of their voice carried over the horizon. She wonders if she sees them walking in the shadows, but ultimately comes to the realization that it may have all been just an illusion, a dream. Despite this, she finds solace in taking in the ocean's scent, feeling close to her lost love in some way.
Overall, "Just a Dream" is a beautiful and emotive song that speaks to the universal experience of letting go of a past relationship. The lyrics are relatable and insightful, and the haunting melody and vocals only add to the depth and layers of this work.
