At the height of her career her songs were recorded by some of pop music’s most important stars: Mama Cass, Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell, Astrud Gilberto, Julie London, Jackie DeShannon, Carmen McCrae, The Lennon Sisters, and Claudine Longet. Her first song to be recorded was "Moon Ride" by the jazz singer Chris Connor in 1958, while she was still in high school. Later, there were two hit versions of the Margo Guryan-penned "Sunday Morning" released a year apart in the late 1960s — the first by Spanky And Our Gang, and the second by Oliver (who had previous success with "Good Morning Starshine" and "Jean").
Although she preferred writing songs that others could record and perform, in 1968 Guryan recorded and released an album entitled "Take a Picture". Although the success of this record back then was limited, it has since become a much sought-after collector’s item.
"Take A Picture" was reissued in 2000 by Franklin Castle Records. A collection of demos entitled 27 Demos is also available.

Words and Music by Margo Guryan
Meeting you
Holding hands
Making love
Playing games
Lying too
Growing bored (ho-hum)
And leaving you
Running around
(Had to keep on runnin')
Being unkind
(Couldn't help it)
Hurting inside
Changing my mind
(Changing my mind)
Thinking hard
Wanting you
Coming home
Feeling new
Climb the stair
Open the door
You're not there
Anymore
Empty room
Lots of tears
Call your name
No one hears me
(Nobody hears)
No one hears me
(Nobody hears)

The lyrics to Margo Guryan’s song “Thoughts” describe the ups and downs of a romantic relationship. The first half of the song depicts happiness and love, as the singer reflects on meeting their partner, holding hands, and making love with “no demands.” However, things start to take a turn as the singer describes playing games and lying to their partner, which leads to boredom and ultimately, leaving them.
The second half of the song portrays the aftermath of the break-up. The singer admits to running around, being unkind, and hurting inside. However, they also express that they are thinking hard and wanting their partner back. As they climb the stairs and open the door to their empty room, they realize that their partner is no longer there. The singer is left with lots of tears and the feeling that nobody hears their cries for their lost love.
The lyrics of “Thoughts” are a poignant reflection on the complexities of love and relationships. Guryan’s use of simple sentence structures and repetition of certain phrases, such as “nobody hears me,” adds to the emotional weight of the song. Overall, “Thoughts” is a powerful portrayal of the joys and pains of falling in and out of love.
