Feel
Marié Digby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Feels like I spent all this time talking to walls
Feels like I gotta let go of the way it was before
Are your really there? Are you made of stone?
Am I talking to someone or am I here all alone

Are you alive, don't you feel, feel, feel?
Show me you're here, show me your tears
Don't you feel, feel, feel, feel?
Show me, hold me, speak up and tell me something
Change my mind before it's too late
Are you alive, show me you're human
Can't you feel, feel, feel, feel?

Seems like you're stuck in a daze, slipping away, away
I'm sick of trying to reach you, can't you say what's on your mind
Baby we're losing the race to far behind, behind
Tell me that I'm not the only one who can try, who can fight the wall

Are you alive, don't you feel, feel, feel?
Show me you're here, show me your tears
Don't you feel, feel, feel, feel?
Show me, hold me, speak up and tell me something
Change my mind before it's too late
Are you alive, show me you're human
Can't you feel, feel, feel, feel?

Sometimes the words they don't get through
What really speaks is what you do
Open up, let me inside, just wanna find you

Are you alive, are you, are you?
Show me you're here, show me your tears
Don't you feel, feel, feel, feel?
Show me, hold me, speak up and tell me something
Change my mind before it's too late
Are you alive, show me you're human
Can't you feel, feel, feel, feel?

Whoa, wake up, are you dead?

Oh feel, feel, feel, feel?
Show me, hold me, speak up and tell me something

Overall Meaning

Marié Digby's song "Feel" delves into the frustration of feeling disconnected from someone who seems emotionally unavailable. The first line of the song, "Feels like I spent all this time talking to walls," sets the tone for the rest of the track. The singer is questioning whether the person they're trying to connect with is truly present or if they're "made of stone." They express a desire for the person to show them they're alive, to "feel, feel, feel" and "show me your tears."

Despite the singer's efforts to break through this emotional barrier ("I'm sick of trying to reach you, can't you say what's on your mind"), they feel like they're losing the race. However, they hold out hope that they're not the only one who can fight this wall and that the person on the other side will open up and let them inside.

The repeated refrain of "Are you alive, don't you feel, feel, feel?" reinforces the plea for the other person to show some sort of emotional responsiveness. The final lines of the song call out: "wake up, are you dead? Oh feel, feel, feel, feel? Show me, hold me, speak up and tell me something." The frustration and longing in the lyrics make "Feel" a relatable song for anyone who has tried to connect with someone who seems emotionally distant or unavailable.

I used to listen to this song as a depressed teenager at my first year in college. It was my favourite back then and I cried with this song so many nights. I rediscovered it now 8 years later and the feeling is the same. Kinda thinking that I was born broken the only difference is that now I'm used to it.
