Você precisa saber de mim
Baby baby
Eu sei que é assim
Eu sei que é assim
Você precisa tomar um sorvete

Você precisa aprender inglês
Precisa aprender o que eu sei
E o que eu não sei mais
E o que eu não sei mais
Não sei, comigo vai tudo azul
Contigo vai tudo em paz

The lyrics of Maria Bethânia’s song “Baby” represents a conversation between two individuals, in which one person is describing their lifestyle and experiences to the other person. The song begins with the singer informing the listener about things that they need to know such as the brand of margarine to use, the type of gasoline to purchase, and even mentions their own name as something that the listener needs to know. The chorus repeats the phrase “Baby baby, Eu sei que é assim” roughly translating to “Baby baby, I know it’s like that” which highlights the singer’s worldliness and understanding of life.
The second verse continues the conversation and the singer suggests that the listener needs to take part in commonplace activities such as going to an ice cream parlor and socializing with their group of friends. They also listen to a song by Roberto Carlos, one of the most famous Brazilian singers of all time. The line “Baby baby, há quanto tempo” roughly translates to “Baby baby, how long has it been?”expresses the singer's longing to spend time with their friend.
In the final verse, the singer tells the listener that they need to learn English so that they can understand what the singer knows and what they have forgotten. The song ends with the singer saying “Baby baby, eu amo você” or “Baby baby, I love you” five times. This phrase is an expression of affection and is repeated numerous times to emphasize the sentiment.
