Maria Rita began to sing professionally aged 24, even though she began to sing since she was 14. Her first CD, 'Maria Rita', launched her career, with the first cut on her first album, "A Festa (The Party)", written by Milton Nascimento, a Brazilian singer-songwriter. The CD was platinum and was a hit worldwide. After that album she became an international star. Her mother's career as a renowned singer had a major influence in Maria Rita's life as a singer; She was always conscious of being the single daughter of a great singer. Despite having her mother's vocal DNA, Maria Rita developed her own jazzy vocal style, influenced by singers, like among others, Ella Fitzgerald. She won the 2004 Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist in the General Area. Her debut album, 'Maria Rita', won the Best MPB (Popular Brasilian Music) Album award of that year. Rita is pronounced "HEE-taaa".
Agora Tá
Maria Rita Lyrics

Pela metade, mas tá
Melhor cuidar
Pra peteca não cair
Pra não deixar escapulir
Como água no ralo
Aquilo que já fez calo
Doeu feito joanete
Cortou como canivete
Feriu, mexeu, mixou
Nunca comeu melado
Quase no ponto tá
No ponto de provar
Eu acho que agora tá
Pra lá de pronto tá
(Bis Letra)
Acho que agora tá
No ponto de provar
Eu acho que agora tá
No ponto de solar
The lyrics of Maria Rita's song "Agora Tá" talk about the need to take care of something that may not be perfect or complete, but is still valuable and worth preserving. The song uses the metaphor of a "peteca," a traditional Brazilian game similar to badminton, which represents something important and fragile that must be protected from falling or escaping. The song mentions past pain and difficulties ("aquilo que fez calo," "doeu feito joanete," "feriu, mexeu, mixou"), but also acknowledges that these experiences have made us stronger and more resilient ("nunca comeu melado, vai lambuzar"). The song encourages us to move forward and appreciate what we have, because starting over from scratch is not always possible or desirable.
The repetition of the phrase "Eu acho que agora tá" creates a sense of anticipation and excitement, as if the singer is about to discover something important or finally reach a goal. The use of regional Brazilian expressions like "mixou" and "comer melado" adds a sense of authenticity and connection to the culture. The melody and rhythm of the song are upbeat and energetic, with a strong percussion section and horns that reflect the influences of samba and jazz.

Já que tá aí,
Now that you're here,
Pela metade, mas tá
Halfway in, but it's okay
Melhor cuidar
It's better to take care
Pra peteca não cair
So we don't drop the ball
Pra não deixar escapulir
To not let it slip away
Como água no ralo
Like water down the drain
Aquilo que já fez calo
That which has caused callouses
Doeu feito joanete
It hurt like a bunion
Castigou nosso cavalo
It punished our horse
Cortou como canivete
Cut like a knife
Feriu, mexeu, mixou
Hurt, stirred, mixed up
Nunca comeu melado
Never had it easy
Vai lambuzar
Will get messy
Se vacilar pode cantar pra subir
If we're not careful, we may fall
Porque não dá pra começar todo rolo de novo
Because we can't start the whole mess over again
Se o bolo ficar sem ovo
If the cake is missing eggs
Se a massa não tem fermento
If the dough lacks yeast
Se não cozinha por dentro
If it doesn't cook inside
Vai tudo por água abaixo
It all goes down the drain
Eu acho, acho, acho que agora tá
I think, think, think that now
Quase no ponto tá
It's almost there
No ponto de provar
Ready to be tasted
Eu acho que agora tá
I think that now
Pra lá de pronto tá
More than ready
