Maria Rita began to sing professionally aged 24, even though she began to sing since she was 14. Her first CD, 'Maria Rita', launched her career, with the first cut on her first album, "A Festa (The Party)", written by Milton Nascimento, a Brazilian singer-songwriter. The CD was platinum and was a hit worldwide. After that album she became an international star. Her mother's career as a renowned singer had a major influence in Maria Rita's life as a singer; She was always conscious of being the single daughter of a great singer. Despite having her mother's vocal DNA, Maria Rita developed her own jazzy vocal style, influenced by singers, like among others, Ella Fitzgerald. She won the 2004 Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist in the General Area. Her debut album, 'Maria Rita', won the Best MPB (Popular Brasilian Music) Album award of that year. Rita is pronounced "HEE-taaa".

Maria Rita Lyrics

Eu estou a te esperar
para ver deitar o sol
sob os teus braços castos
Cobre a culpa vã
até amanhã eu vou ficar
e fazer do teu sorriso um abrigo
Canta o teu encanto que é pra me encantar
Canta para mim
qualquer coisa assim sobre você
Que explique a minha paz
Tristeza nunca mais
Vale o meu pranto
que esse canto em solidão
Nessa espera o mundo gira em linhas tortas
Abre essa janela
primavera quer entrar
pra fazer da nossa voz uma só nota.
Canto que é de canto que eu vou chegar
Canto e toco um canto que é pra te encantar
Canto para mim qualquer coisa assim sobre você
que explique a minha paz
Tristeza nunca mais
The lyrics of Casa Pré-Fabricada, by Maria Rita, refer to someone waiting for another person. The first stanza shows the person waiting, asking to open the cabinets and see the sun lying down through their chaste arms. The second stanza shows the person asking the other to sing a song that will explain their peace and, in return, saying that they will arrive through the corner, referring to the idea that many things happen and come around in a person's life that shapes them in different ways. The third stanza asks to open the window and let the spring come in so that they can sing together.
Overall, the song has a romantic tone, as it portrays someone longing to be with another person, but it also has a sense of hopefulness and a note of optimism. The actions the person takes, such as asking the other to sing, make it clear that they are willing to work on their relationship and come together in order to find happiness and escape sadness.
