Que eu abro meu cordão quando você passar
E o nosso bloco sobe a ladeira da ilusão
De pé no chão
Batuque o coração que a gente é carnaval
E nada irá conter essa folia
Atrás do nosso amor
Vem marcando em nosso peito
Coração a Batucar
Pra gente ser feliz
Pra gente desfilar por essa vida
In Maria Rita's song "Coração a Batucar," the lyrics speak about the power and joy of love, comparing it to a lively carnival procession. The song starts by encouraging the heart to beat in anticipation of the arrival of a loved one. The persona promises to open their carnival cord as the loved one passes by. The "bloco" (the carnival group) then ascends the hill of illusion, while remaining grounded in reality.
The chorus reinforces the idea that the heart should beat with excitement because the persona and their loved one are like a carnival, and nothing can contain their joyous celebration. They declare that they will follow their love wherever they go, as long as the samba music keeps playing. They invite their beloved to imprint their heart with the rhythm of the batucar, which signifies the beating of a drum, representing the strength and passion of their love.
The last line of the song represents the desire to be happy and to parade through life together, embracing all experiences, both joyful and challenging, with the same enthusiasm as a carnival parade. It emphasizes the idea of living life fully and not being afraid to take part in its rollercoaster ride.
Overall, "Coração a Batucar" is a declaration of love, comparing it to the lively and exuberant spirit of a carnival procession. It celebrates the power of love to elevate and bring joy to life, even in the face of challenges and illusions.

Batuque o coração para me ver chegar
Let your heart beat to welcome me
Que eu abro meu cordão quando você passar
So I can open my cordão when you pass by
E o nosso bloco sobe a ladeira da ilusão
And our bloco climbs the hill of illusion
De pé no chão
Standing on solid ground
Batuque o coração que a gente é carnaval
Let your heart beat, for we are carnival
E nada irá conter essa folia
And nothing will contain this revelry
Atrás do nosso amor
Behind our love
Até quando esse samba tocar
Until this samba plays
Vem marcando em nosso peito
It leaves an imprint on our hearts
Coração a Batucar
Heart beating to the rhythm
Pra gente ser feliz
For us to be happy
Pra gente desfilar por essa vida
For us to parade through this life
