Crybaby
Mariah Carey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yo, what's happenin'?
What you're cryin' for?
You know you look too damn good to be cryin'
Come here
Holla at a player
Dpg style
Ya know, ya know
When I think of our untimely end
And everything we could have been
I cry, baby I cry

Okay so it's 5 am and I still can't sleep
Took some medicine but it's not working
Someone's clinging to me and it's bittersweet
'Cause he's head over heels but it ain't that deep
I finally changed my number got a different pager
Then last Saturday your cousin called to say you're
Trying to reach me, probably because you see that I'm with someone new

Late at night like a little child
Wandering around alone in my new friend's home
On my tippy toes, so that he won't know
I still cry baby over you and me
(Baby don't cry)

Sipping Bailey's Cream, by the stereo
Trying to find relief on the radio (ah, what's up?)
I'm suppressing the tears, but they start to flow
'Cause the next song I hear is the song I wrote
When we first got together early that September
I can't bear to listen so I might as well drift
In the kitchen pour another glass or two and try to forget you (ya know, ya know)

Late at night like a little child
Wandering around alone in my new friend's home
On my tippy toes, so that he won't know
I still cry baby over you and me (Baby don't cry)

Baby here me when I say
Let that man be on his way
Don't even waste your time and worry 'bout how he handle things
Baby here me when I say
A playa feeling good today
You know you're too fly to even waste your time
Watch how I handle things
Man you's a fool for this
But on the real dog I'm cool with this
We doing this
D-o double G Z-Y
Kiss the girls and make them cry

Late at night like a little child (I'm like a little child) (dry your eyes)
Wandering around alone in my new friend's home (nah baby don't cry)
On my tippy toes, so that he won't know (baby don't cry)
I still cry baby over you and me (dry your eyes)

Late at night like a little child (why is it bothering him and why ?)
Walkin' around (you know you're too fly to be crying)
In my new friend's home
On my tippy toes (on my tippy toes)
So that he won't know (so that he won't know)
(Dry your eyes) I still cry baby over you and me (I still cry)

I don't get no sleep, I'm up awake
Can't stop thinking of you and me
And everything we used to be
And could have been so perfect
Still I cry, I cry, I cry (you know, yeah)
Oh I gotta get me some sleep
Baby and I cry, cry, cry, cry (dry your eyes, no baby don't cry)
(Baby don't cry) Baby and I cry (on my tippy toes)
Cry (so that he won't know)
Cry (I still cry)
Cry

Late at night like a little child
Wandering around alone in my new friend's home
On my tippy toes, so that he won't know
I still cry baby over you and me

Late at night like a little child
Wandering around alone in my new friend's home
On my tippy toes, so that he won't know
I still cry baby over you and me

Baby and I cry, cry, cry, cry
Baby and I cry (on my tippy toes)
Baby I cry (so that he won't know)

I still cry
Baby and I

Overall Meaning

In Crybaby by Mariah Carey, the lyrics describe the feeling of heartbreak and trying to move on after a relationship has ended. The start of the song is Dpg style, which is a reference to the Dogg Pound Gangsta, a hip-hop group from Long Beach, California. The song is about Mariah crying over what could have been, and she feels bitter because someone else wants to be with her, but she is struggling to let go of her past relationship.

The first verse of the song talks about how Mariah thinks of what their relationship could have been if things had not ended, and she still cries about it. She then talks about her current situation, where she is with someone new, but her ex is still trying to reach out to her through a relative. The pre-chorus talks about Mariah trying to find relief by sipping on Bailey's Cream and listening to the radio. She is suppressing tears but cries when she hears the song she wrote when they first got together.

The chorus uses the refrain "Late at night like a little child, wandering around alone in my new friend's home on my tippy toes so that he won't know. I still cry, baby, over you and me." The second verse is about Mariah trying to convince herself to move on from her ex because he's not worth her time, and she is too fly to waste time on him. The chorus is repeated, and the end of the song shows Mariah still crying over her past relationship.

I am devastated by the fact that our relationship ended unexpectedly and all the potential great things we could have had together; now I cannot help but cry.

I am struggling to sleep despite taking medication. Someone is holding on to me tightly, but I am not as invested in the relationship. Even though I changed my contact details, I learned that my ex has been trying to get in touch with me through their cousin, most likely after realizing that I am now seeing someone else.

Sipping Bailey's Cream, by the stereo Trying to find relief on the radio (ah, what's up?) I am trying to find comfort through Bailey's Cream and music on the stereo. Although I am trying to hold back my tears, they eventually start flowing after hearing a song that I wrote when we first started dating. The memory is too painful, so I shift my attention to pouring more drinks in the kitchen and attempting to forget my ex.

Late at night like a little child Wandering around alone in my new friend's home On my tippy toes, so that he won't know I still cry baby over you and me (Baby don't cry)
Late at night, I move around my new friend's house quietly, much like a child trying not to wake someone up. I am trying to keep my emotions hidden, but I can't help but cry while reminiscing about my ex and the relationship that we had.

Man you's a fool for this But on the real dog I'm cool with this We doing this D-o double G Z-Y Kiss the girls and make them cry
You might have been foolish to end our relationship, but I am cool with it. I am moving on and embracing the single life with the help of the musician Snoop Dogg, who is notorious for making girls cry by breaking their hearts.

I am still moving around my friend's house like a child trying not to wake them up. Despite trying to keep my emotions hidden, I still cry when thinking about my ex and our relationship.

We cry a lot, and I am still hiding my emotions from everyone around me, including my new partner.

@@macabree5856 I mean years ago songs had the meaning behind the words, stories told, depth & substance

This Generation has lost values

Mariah is 1 of a Kind
I hope we appreciate her before she dies

One of the best vocalist I’ve ever heard

So versatile, she can do nearly every type of song

I’m sure she’d nail a country song lol even sing on a reggae beat loool

Up there with Stevie Whitney & Celine

@ProfessorJay-sc6vd

@@macabree5856 I’m a man with a soft heart .. from a family of singers … if it wasn’t for my older sister 35 me 33

I wouldn’t appreciate Mariah, Aaliyah, J Lo, Christina Milian, Ashanti etc etc

Let’s be honest Mimi is on a different level to the rest

My sister my me go to the o2 in London to see Mariah in 2016 I think .. a fabulous concert

I’m sure Mariah did a country song or too lol

She’s a legend .. why is it ppl will show mad love when ppl die

Mariah an r n b pop Queen
In the last 30 years there’s nobody better … Beyoncé is a shout tho

But I’d argue Usher is better tho 😏

We are so lucky to live in this time … being young & living in the generation is completely different to listening to songs out of your generation… it’s just not the same feeling on your heart strings!!

Mariah reminds me of my sister singing when we were young .. she’s like the biggest fan ever … I’ve been saying that usher has better songs tho lol love usher … she ain’t having it tho 🤣

Put some respect on mimi’s name 👌🏽

I’m was lucky enough to see Micheal Jackson 3 times & Mimi

Music is done out here lol
And so many other things in life

I find myself going back into the past to search for scraps Lool because I’m just not interested in new stuff especially covers or ppl remaking old classics ☹️😩

@macabree5856

@@ProfessorJay-sc6vd wow i didn't want to say much because i didn't really know your preferences but after reading your comment, we're quite the same.

From family of musicians, nearly all of my relationships consisted of singers. Even my social circle consisted of singers. Singers that will make everyone at my job just melt in admiration when they would sing for like maybe a employee Xmas party

All those artists i appreciate ad well (Aaliayh, Jlo, Milan Ashanti) all of them. Monica, Christina Aguilera etc. I have all Aaliyah Cds for example but Mariah Carey is just on a supreme level. She's my [favorite] dinger and I've listened to sooo many singers [young, old, from other countries, unknown artists, church singers etc]

I got to see her perform in New York City in United States during Christmas Event and i felt like a dimension of beauty opened inside me. She has just remarkable beautiful singing voice

Love your comment. In my early thirties as well. So grateful to grow up in the generation of remarkable singers. I try listening to new stuff as well but it is just not the same. And i hate when when people do covers or remakes of Classics. It's not the same
