Marian Hill wrote "Whisky" in the spring of 2013 and sent it to dozens of blogs hoping to catch some attention. The song created a buzz, and the following year, the duo released their first EP, Play, as well as a 7" single, "Lips." They received mainstream exposure when Romanian pop star Inna credited them as co-writers of her song "Diggy Down," which incorporated the hook of Marian Hill's "Got It." The pair signed to Photo Finish/Republic Records in early 2015 and released Sway, a seven-track EP.
In 2016, the duo issued their full-length debut album, Act One, featuring the number 21 single "Down." The LP reached number 42 on the Billboard 200. Their remix of Billie Eilish's single "Bellyache" appeared in 2017. Early 2018 saw the release of the punchy single "Subtle Thing," followed by an appearance at that year's Coachella Festival. Marian Hill's second long-player, Unusual, arrived in May 2018 and returned them to the U.S. albums chart as well as charting in France. August 2019 saw the duo issue the single "Take a Number," which featured a guest spot from Moroccan-American singer, songwriter, model, and activist Dounia. The song appeared on Marian Hill's self-released 2020 EP Was It Not. After collaborating with Roman Kouder on "Bonjour," they released "oOo that's my type" with Yung Baby Tate in 2021. This was followed by additional singles "omg" and "it never ends." ~ Paul Simpson
Take Your Time

This one's ripe for the picking
See me strut with my shirt low
See your eyes as they follow
You been thinking one thing
Let me tell you some thing you should keep in mind
If you wanna touch it, baby don't you rush it
If you wanna touch it, boy just lay low
Baby don't you rush it, till I say you're mine
Just take your time
If you wanna touch it, boy just lay low
Baby don't you rush it, till I say you're mine
Just take your time
Think you know what you're doing
Fingers brush and you're ruined
Feel your heart as it races
So much fun in the chasing
Thought you wanted one thing,
Now you're wanting something harder to define
Boy I know the feeling, 'cause you got me reeling
Let me take your time
If you wanna touch it, boy just lay low
Baby don't you rush it, till I say you're mine
Just take your time
If you wanna touch it, boy just lay low
Baby don't you rush it, till I say you're mine
Just take your time
Melting on the floor
Melt you to your core
Touch me like a violin
And feel me vibrate on your skin
I don't wanna go
Won't you stay awhile?
If you wanna touch it, boy just lay low
Baby don't you rush it, till I say you're mine
Just take your time
If you wanna touch it, boy just lay low
Baby don't you rush it, till I say you're mine
Just take your time
The lyrics to "Take Your Time" by Marian Hill can be interpreted as a seductive and teasing invitation from the singer to her lover to slow down and savor the moments of physical intimacy they share. In the first verse, the singer acknowledges the physical attraction between herself and her lover, but advises him not to rush into anything. She wants to be in control and take her time, giving him the chance to appreciate every moment of their physical connection.
The second verse suggests that things may have moved too quickly before, leading to disappointment or a lack of fulfillment. The singer wants something deeper and more complex than just a physical connection, and she wants her lover to take his time to truly understand her desires and needs. The bridge is an invitation for the lover to stay longer and continue exploring their connection.
Overall, the message of the song seems to be about taking the time to truly be present and in the moment during moments of physical intimacy. It emphasizes the importance of communication, patience, and consent in building a fulfilling and lasting partnership.
