In the past, band members dressed in outlandish makeup and costumes, and engaged in intentionally shocking behavior both onstage and off. Their lyrics often received criticism for their anti-religious sentiment and references to sex, violence and drugs, while their live performances were frequently called offensive and obscene. On several occasions, protests and petitions led to the group being blocked from performing, with at least three US states passing legislation banning the group from performing at state-owned venues. They released a number of platinum-selling albums, including Antichrist Superstar (1996) and Mechanical Animals (1998). These albums, along with their highly stylized music videos and worldwide touring, brought public recognition to Marilyn Manson. In 1999, news media, infamously, falsely blamed the band for influencing the perpetrators of the Columbine High School massacre.
As this controversy began to wane throughout the 2000s, so did the band's mainstream popularity. Despite this, Jon Wiederhorn of MTV, in June 2003, referred to Marilyn Manson as "the only true artist today". Marilyn Manson is widely regarded as being one of the most iconic and controversial figures in rock music, with the band and its lead singer influencing numerous other groups and musicians, both in metal-associated acts and also in wider popular culture. VH1 ranked Marilyn Manson as the seventy-eighth best rock band on their 100 Great Artists of Hard Rock. They were inducted into the Kerrang! Hall of Fame in 2000, and have been nominated for four Grammy Awards. In the U.S., the band has seen ten of its releases debut in the top ten, including two number-one albums. Marilyn Manson have sold in excess of 50 million records worldwide.

New Model No. 15
Marilyn Manson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I'm vague and I know that I'm
Homopolitan
Pitifully predictable
Correctly political
I'm the new, I'm the new, new model
Better in the head and in bed
At the office
I can suck and smile
New, New, New model
New, New, New model
I can choke and diet on coke
I'm spun and I know
That I'm stoned and rolling
Lifelike and poseable
Hopeless and disposable
I'm the new, I'm the new, new model
I've got nothing inside
Better in the head and in bed
At the office
I can suck and smile
New, New, New model
New, New, New model
New, New, New model
New, New, New model
Pitifully predictable
Correctly political
Pitifully predictable
Correctly political
Don't let them know how far you go
Or that you use your "lovers"
Oh look, you're like a VCR
Stick something in to know
Just who you are
I'm the new, I'm the new, new model
I've got nothing inside
Better in the head and in bed
At the office
I can suck and smile
New, New, New model
New, New, New model

The song "New Model No. 15" by Marilyn Manson is a commentary on the emptiness and artificiality of modern society. The lyrics focus on the idea of being a "new model" - a representation of what society expects people to be. However, this model is fake, unfulfilled, and purposeless.
The first few lines of the song directly address this idea of being fake, both in terms of appearance and personality. The singer compares themselves to a "wedding cake," an object that is traditionally used to present an ideal image, and admits to being "vague" and "homopolitan" - a made-up word implying a shallow, superficial lifestyle. The following lines emphasize the predictability and conformity of this lifestyle, with the singer being "correctly political" and "pitifully predictable."
The chorus further highlights the empty nature of this new model: "I've got nothing inside / Better in the head and in bed / At the office / I can suck and smile." The only value this model has is in appearance, sexual attractiveness, and professional success - traits that are ultimately shallow and meaningless. The final verse adds another layer to this critique by warning against revealing one's true self and instead encouraging the use of others, as if they are simply objects that can be "stuck" into a VCR to determine who someone is.
Overall, "New Model No. 15" is a scathing critique of modern society's obsession with superficiality, conformity, and emptiness, and the pressure to fit into a certain "model."
