In the past, band members dressed in outlandish makeup and costumes, and engaged in intentionally shocking behavior both onstage and off. Their lyrics often received criticism for their anti-religious sentiment and references to sex, violence and drugs, while their live performances were frequently called offensive and obscene. On several occasions, protests and petitions led to the group being blocked from performing, with at least three US states passing legislation banning the group from performing at state-owned venues. They released a number of platinum-selling albums, including Antichrist Superstar (1996) and Mechanical Animals (1998). These albums, along with their highly stylized music videos and worldwide touring, brought public recognition to Marilyn Manson. In 1999, news media, infamously, falsely blamed the band for influencing the perpetrators of the Columbine High School massacre.
As this controversy began to wane throughout the 2000s, so did the band's mainstream popularity. Despite this, Jon Wiederhorn of MTV, in June 2003, referred to Marilyn Manson as "the only true artist today". Marilyn Manson is widely regarded as being one of the most iconic and controversial figures in rock music, with the band and its lead singer influencing numerous other groups and musicians, both in metal-associated acts and also in wider popular culture. VH1 ranked Marilyn Manson as the seventy-eighth best rock band on their 100 Great Artists of Hard Rock. They were inducted into the Kerrang! Hall of Fame in 2000, and have been nominated for four Grammy Awards. In the U.S., the band has seen ten of its releases debut in the top ten, including two number-one albums. Marilyn Manson have sold in excess of 50 million records worldwide.

I fold you how I want
You're not my noose
I tied this knot
If this won't be
Our fingers laid together
This is total war
Method not objective
You can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
You can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
You can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
Back together
Scars on my fingers, bruises, my neck
Crashin' my trains, warship my wreck
Scars on my fingers, bruises, my neck
Crashin' my trains, warship my wreck
Scars on my fingers, bruises, my neck
Crashin' my trains, warship my wreck
Warship my wreck
Warship my wreck
Cut the hands off
The kamikaze into your soul
Kamikaze into your soul
Scars on my fingers, bruise on my neck
Crashin' my trains, warship my wreck, warship my wreck
Scars on my fingers, bruise on my neck
Crashin' my trains, warship my wreck, warship my wreck
Scars on my fingers, bruises, my neck
Bashin' my trains, warship my wreck
Can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
Can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
Can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
Can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
Can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
Can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue them back together
Can't ever say I'm breaking the rules
The lyrics to Marilyn Manson's "Warship My Wreck" are quite complex, full of metaphors, and open to interpretation. At first glance, the song seems to describe a possessive and obsessive relationship where the singer is in control of their partner's actions and thoughts. The first verse seems to be spoken from the singer's point of view, where he compares his partner to a "paper doll" that he can fold as he wants. However, he also admits that his partner is not his "noose" and that he himself chose to tie the knot that binds them together.
The chorus is the most repetitive part of the song, and the lyrics "you can't ever say I'm breaking the rules, if I can glue them back together" are repeated several times. This repetition can be interpreted in different ways - it could be seen as the singer dismissing his partner's objections or complaints by saying that he can fix things, or it could mean that he is trying to justify his actions and manipulate his partner into believing that everything will be okay.
The lyrics in the second verse are more violent and self-destructive, with references to scars, bruises, and crashes. The line "warship my wreck" can be interpreted in two ways - it could be a play on words that combines "worship" and "shipwreck," which could mean that the singer wants his partner to admire his destruction or follow him in his downfall. Alternatively, "warship" could be a verb that means to fight for or against, which could suggest that the singer wants his partner to join him in his struggle and be on his side.
Overall, the lyrics to "Warship My Wreck" are open to interpretation and challenging to understand fully. However, they showcase Marilyn Manson's poetic and artistic vision, and the song's dark and intense mood is consistent with his other work.
