The song was written by MARINA, Jacob Jerlström, Oscar Görres, and Erik Hassle, but only produced by Görres.
Marina has said "I wrote “Orange Trees” about the island that my family and I are from in Greece. It’s called Lefkada and it’s my favourite place in the world... I always feel at peace there. It’s like my body/ biology recognises I’m back home."[6] and “It’s easy listening. I love it so much. I’m actually kind of addicted to it. I wrote it with a Swedish artist called Erik Hassle, which I really enjoyed. I haven’t always enjoyed that process in the past because I was always so nervous about songwriting with other people and it was such a solitary pursuit. But that fear has gone now.”

Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
I can see the flowers and the greenery
I take a breath of air, I feel free
Spent so long, was busy chasing happiness
Try to get back to what we need
(Oh yeah, yeah, yeah)
Living like we're supposed to be
Flowers in my hair, I belong by the sea
Where we used to be, sitting by the orange trees
Summer in the air, bodies in the heat
Just you and me, sitting by the orange trees
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
So far away, from neon lights and city streets
This is where I used to dream
Been around the world, but I could never replicate
The feeling that I get beneath my feet
Try to get back to what we need
(Oh yeah, yeah, yeah)
Living like we're supposed to be
Flowers in my hair, I belong by the sea
Where we used to be, sitting by the orange trees
Summer in the air, bodies in the heat
Just you and me, sitting by the orange trees
Oh-oh-oh-orange (Oh, oh)
Oh-oh-oh-orange (Oh-oh-oh)
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Watch the sun go down into the sea
Wrap your love around me-e-e
Life is beautiful and now you see
This is how it feels to be free
Flowers in my hair, I belong by the sea
Where we used to be, sitting by the orange trees
Summer in the air, bodies in the heat
Just you and me (Just you and me), sitting by the orange trees
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange (Oh-oh-oh)
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange
Oh-oh-oh-orange (Oh-oh-oh)
Oh-oh-oh-orange
In Marina's song "Orange Trees," she expresses the longing for a simpler, more peaceful life. She reminisces about a time when she felt free and happy, without the stress and pressure of constantly chasing after happiness. The lyrics "Spent so long, was busy chasing happiness, When all I needed was a little peace" illustrate the idea of how people often forget to slow down and appreciate the good things around them, always searching for the next big thing. She suggests that we try to get back to what we need and live as we're supposed to be.
The imagery in the song is important too, particularly the oranges and the sea. Marina's association of the color orange with happiness indicates the joy she feels when surrounded by nature. She also describes how sitting by the orange trees with just her partner makes her feel free, with summer in the air and bodies in the heat. The line "Where we used to be, sitting by the orange trees" suggests that this moment of pure bliss has been lost in time, and that Marina yearns to recapture it.
Overall, this song highlights the beauty of living simply and enjoying the small things in life. It's a reminder to find happiness in nature and to take time to appreciate the moment.
