She was born on the 10th October of 1985 in Abergavenny, Wales. She began creating and producing her own music in 2005. In 2007, she released her debut EP, Mermaid vs. Sailor. She released her first single (a double A-side, Obsessions/Mowgli's Road) through Neon Gold Records on the February 14th, 2009, closely followed by The Crown Jewels EP in June 2009. Now signed to 679 Recordings, her first single with the label was "Mowgli's Road", released in November 2009. In January of 2010 she reached number two on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll list. This was followed by the release of her debut full-length studio album, The Family Jewels on the 22nd February 2010, and her debut American release, The American Jewels EP on the May 25th, 2010.

Diamandis' musical style ranges from keyboard-based ballads to more up-tempo new wave-style songs with full band backing. She has cited a wide range of influences such as Daniel Johnston, Blondie, Patti Smith, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Elliott Smith, Dolly Parton, Britney Spears and Madonna.

not only does this song sound great, but it also can have so many meanings:

the first is what you may think if you dont listen to marina much, or just the first listen. that its about a woman who dislikes her crush's girlfriend, and believes she is toxic. not written in a misogynist way, but in a true love triangle situation which is cool!

but then, if you take marina's other discography into the meaning, you have many more layers. i personally believe marina wrote this song about "herself" or about the electra heart character she made that she felt was haunting her (whether this was her real life or just a part of the story) to keep it brief (although i certainly could go line by line here lol!)

the first set of lyrics are very electra heart, who broke many mens hearts and just used them for whatever she needed.

the next lines reference the phrase "the cat who got the cream", if youve listened to family jewels youll know in "are you satisifed?" marina uses the lyric: "one life pretending to be, the cat who got the cream". family jewels was DEFINITELY a personal album rather than concept as electra heart, so i believe this is a reference to the woman in the song is... herself.

a few lines down, "everybody's friend, does it ring a bell?" could be referencing to a lightbulb moment that, aha its not someone else shes talking about but herself.

the final verse, the situation is very electa heart/homewrecker, and then she says "im passing judgement on the way she always stuck her knife in my back ever since we were starting out" is directly her saying, this persona of mine, thats been there since we started fame (or started adolescence) is causing me self sabotage.

Because Marina acknowledges that as humans we are not always logical and maybe have radical thoughts". Emotions such as jealously and reactions to some situations are simply instinctive. She's acknowledging she has no right to respond in this way (something not many do) and showing we can't always practice what we preach. She's human and not perfect. We sometimes have these conflicting thoughts that go against what we believe in. If all humans are one thing, it is hypocritical. I am, you are and so is marina. I don't know much about love but sometimes you just feel a certain way.
