The divide between those with money and those without often leads to conflict

Ultimately, in the grand scheme of things

It's a human trait
It is something inherent in us as people

Hidden deep down inside of our DNA
It is coded into our very genetics

One man can build a bomb
A single individual has the power to create a weapon of mass destruction

While another's efforts may be focused on athletic competition

To save somebody's life
The motive to help and protect others

And have it blow up in his face
But sometimes good intentions can have disastrous results

I'm not the only one who
Many others also feel this way

Finds it hard to understand
Struggles to comprehend or make sense of the world's violence and injustices

I'm not afraid of God
The concept of a higher power doesn't instill fear

I am afraid of Man
It is human actions that can be terrifying

Is it running in our blood
Is this pattern of behavior something inherent in us

Is it running in our veins
Does this violent tendency flow through our entire being

Is it running in our genes
Is it a result of our genetic makeup

Is it in our DNA
Is the capacity for violence hardwired into us at a biological level

Humans aren't gonna behave
People do not always act in a socially acceptable or ethical manner

As we think we always should
As much as we would like to believe that everyone will be good and kind

Yeah, we can be bad as we can be good
The human experience includes both positive and negative behaviors

Underneath it all, we're just savages
Despite our modern trappings, we are still primitive creatures at our core

Hidden behind shirts, ties and marriages
Our outward appearance and status in society do not negate our innate nature

How could we expect anything at all
Why should we anticipate that humans will behave in a certain way

We're just animals, still learning how to crawl
We are still discovering who we are as a species and how we want to interact with the world

We live, we die
Life is fleeting and finite

We steal, we kill, we lie
People commit acts of theft, violence, and deceit

Just like animals
Like other creatures on this planet

But with far less grace
Unlike other species who hunt for survival, humans often act without any elegance or decency

We laugh, we cry
We experience a range of emotions throughout our lives

Like babies in the night
Much like infants who are still discovering the world around them

Forever running wild
Always on the move, constantly striving for more

In the human race
Within the competition that exists among humans

Another day, another tale of rape
Every day there are stories of sexual assault

Another ticking bomb to bury deep and detonate
Or another act of violence waiting to happen

You can see it on the news
It is widely reported and documented

You can watch it on TV
It is often portrayed in popular media

You can read it on your phone
We can access information about these incidents from anywhere and at any time

You can say it's troubling
One may acknowledge the horrifying nature of these events

Truth is in us all, cradle to the grave
We all have access to the truth and the potential to understand it - from birth to death

All the hate coming out from a generation
Younger people are expressing more vitriol and anger

Who got everything, and nothing guided by temptation
Despite growing up with privilege and access to resources, these people are still vulnerable to their base desires

Were we born to abuse, shoot a gun and run
Is it natural for humans to exert their power over others through violence and then flee the scene

Or has something deep inside of us come undone?
Perhaps something about our current societal structure or way of life has led us to become more violent and disconnected from each other

Are you killing for yourself, or killing for your savior?
The motivations behind violence can vary - is it to benefit oneself, or to please a higher power?
