Bella ciao
Marina Rossell Lyrics

oh, bella, ciao…
Muy de mañana me he levantado
y me he enfrentado al invasor.
Quiero ir contigo donde tú vayas
Oh, bella, ciao…
Quiero ir contigo, ay, partisana,
para que me des valor.
Ay, bella, ciao…
Y si muriera en este campo
cúbreme con el calor
de nuestra tierra, que entre tus manos
Ay, bella, ciao…
De nuestra tierra, que entre tus manos
sabe a revolución.
Y cuando pasen los partisanos
Ay, bella, ciao…
Sabrán que el árbol que tú plantaste
sobre mi fosa, floreció.
Con flores rojas, rojas de sangre
Ay, bella, ciao…
Con flores rojas, que tú metiste
dentro de mi corazón.
These lyrics are from the iconic anti-fascist Italian song "Bella Ciao". The song is about a partisan who is going to go fight against the fascist invaders, and as the lyrics suggest, she wakes up early in the morning to go fight them. The partisan asks to go with the person she is addressing, most likely another partisan or lover or friend, and wants to be brave, saying "para que me des valor" or "to give me valor." If she were to die in the battlefield, she asks the person to "cúbreme con el calor" or "cover me with warmth" of our land, which to her represents the revolution. The partisan believes that if she were to die, whatever tree that her addresser planted will sprout, showing that her efforts were not in vain. The song ends by saying that the tree will blossom with red flowers, which represents the blood of the partisan.
