Mario Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When you look at me
I know you see
A 15-year-old
getting his gold
Back and forth to the studios
Hoppin' out limoseens
Jodan's fresh
T-shirts new
And even though
These things are true
It's hard work and
sometimes I just wanna go home
And tell my girl to...
Chorus:
Braid my hair
Come on and braid my hair
Back in my hood
Feelin' good
No worries or no cares
Baby use your hands
To make me feel alright
And take away the stress and drama in my life...
while you braid my hair
Verse 2:
You may (you may) think that (think that) I'm complainin'
But that's not the case (no)

The song "Braid My Hair" by Mario talks about the pressures of fame and success and the need for a personal escape from it all. Mario expresses the difficulty and exhaustion of constantly being on the go, traveling from state to state, and the stress that comes with the music industry. The lyrics also highlight the importance of having someone to turn to during these hard times, prompting his significant other to braid his hair and help him escape from his demanding schedule.
The chorus "Braid my hair, come on and braid my hair, back in my hood feeling good, no worries or no cares" reflects Mario's longing for the simpler times when he didn't have to worry about fame and success. The act of braiding his hair represents a return to a simpler time when he wasn't constantly on the go. The bridge describes a sensuous scene where he places his trust in his significant other with the simple act of braiding his hair, disengaging from the fast-paced world of fame and success for a moment of calm and relaxation.

Braiding your man's hair was basically a way to say I love you. I remember seeing my mom braid my dad's hair growing up and she used to be so happy and they would talk, laugh and listen to 80's and 90's throw backs. Now they are too old and tired. They dont show as much love as they used to. It's crazy how time changes.

Damn beautiful memories of straight Black Love you have... and as a brother with braids it most definitely is an intimate act which is why I refuse to go to some salon and pay a sista.
