Mario Frangoulis Lyrics

Poi all'improvviso uscì una lacrima
Confondono i pensieri
Caruso, sung by Mario Frangoulis, is a beautiful and emotional song that captures the heart of its listeners. The song depicts a scene in which an old man is singing to his lover on a terrace overlooking the Gulf of Sorrento amid the bright lights of the sea, where the wind is strong. The old man expresses his love towards his lover and claims that his love for her is a chain that cannot be broken, enchanting her with his magical voice. As he sings, he remembers his past and his experiences in America, where he witnessed the pain and suffering of the people he came across.
As he continues to play his piano and sing, he feels overwhelmed by the power of music and its ability to evoke emotions within him. He then gazes upon his girlfriend and sees her green eyes, the same color as the sea, which leaves him breathless. As he sings, he becomes emotional and sheds tears, realizing how much he loves his lover.
Throughout the song, Caruso emphasizes the power of music and the emotional impact it can have on a person. The lyrics highlight the deep emotions and love between two people, as well as the beauty of life and the pain that often comes with it. Overall, this song is a beautiful and touching tribute to love, music, and life.

Qui dove il mare luccica
Here, where the sea glistens
E tira forte il vento
And the wind blows strongly
Su una vecchia terrazza
On an old terrace
Davanti al Golfo di Surriento
In front of the Gulf of Sorrento
Un uomo abbraccia una ragazza
A man embraces a girl
Dopo che aveva pianto
After she had cried
Poi si schiarisce la voce
Then he clears his voice
E ricomincia il canto
And begins to sing again
Te voglio bene assaje
I love you so much
Ma tanto tanto bene sai
You know, so much, so much
È una catena ormai
It's a chain now
That melts the blood within your veins, you know
Vide le luci in mezzo al mare
He saw the lights in the middle of the sea
Pensò alle notti là in America
Thought of the nights in America
Ma erano solo le lampare
But they were only the lamps
Nella bianca scia di un'elica
In the white trail of a propeller
Sentì il dolore nella musica
He felt the pain in the music
Si alzò dal pianoforte
He got up from the piano
But when he saw the moon emerge from a cloud
Gli sembrò più dolce anche la morte
Death even seemed sweeter to him
Guardò negli occhi la ragazza
He looked into the girl's eyes
Quelli occhi verdi come il mare
Those green eyes like the sea
Poi all'improvviso uscì una lacrima
Then suddenly, a tear fell
E lui credette di affogare
And he felt as if he were drowning
Potenza della lirica
The power of opera
Dove ogni dramma è un falso
Where every drama is a falsehood
That with a little trickery and mimicry
Puoi diventare un altro
You can become someone else
Ma due occhi che ti guardano
But two eyes that look at you
Così vicini e veri
So close and real
Ti fan scordare le parole
Make you forget your words
Confondono i pensieri
Confuse your thoughts
Così diventa tutto piccolo
Everything becomes small
Anche le notti là in America
Even the nights in America
Ti volti e vedi la tua vita
You turn around and see your life
Come la scia di un'elica
Like the trail of a propeller
Ma sì, è la vita che finisce
But yes, it's life that ends
Ma lui non ci pensò poi tanto
But he didn't think about it too much
Anzi si sentiva già felice
In fact, he already felt happy
E ricominciò il suo canto
And he started singing again

so beautifully sang. Magnificent singing voice and piano playing too. Thank you Mario,

Different from the classical interpretations of Caruso by Pavarotti and Dalla themselves. But if it wasn't different there would be no reason to listen to that of Fragkoulis. The power of his voice combining with the strong piano give a lot of momentum in the lyrics. Very remarkable one I believe!
