Ch'ella Mi Creda
Mario Frangoulis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ch'ella mi creda libero e lontano
sopra una nuova via di redenzione!…
Aspetterà ch'io torni…
E passeranno i giorni,
E passeranno i giorni,
ed io non tornerò…
ed io non tornerò…
Minnie, della mia vita mio solo fiore,
Minnie, che m'hai voluto tanto bene!…

Tanto bene!
Ah, tu della mia vita mio solo fior!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mario Frangoulis's song Ch'ella Mi Creda are incredibly powerful and full of emotion. The song itself is a beautiful and dramatic aria from the opera "La Fanciulla del West" by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. The lyrics tell the story of a man who is leaving his love and venturing out on a new path of redemption. He hopes that she will believe he is free and far away, and that she will wait for him to return. However, as time passes, he knows deep down that he will never come back to her.

The first line of the song, "Ch'ella mi creda libero e lontano," translates to "May she think me free and far away." The man wants his love to believe that he is free from whatever troubles he has been facing and that he is far away from her. He wants to leave his old life behind and start anew, and he hopes she will understand and wait for him.

He then sings about how he knows that she will wait for him, even though he knows that he will never return. He talks about how Minnie, the "only flower" of his life, has loved him so much, but he knows he cannot reciprocate that love. He knows that he has to leave her behind and start a new life, but he also knows that he will never forget her and the love they shared.

I respect your opinion, but wish to add my own here. I'm no expert in opera, although I like listening to it. I find Mario's voice to be the most beautiful voice to my ears - it's so different to other typical tenors. So much "warmer" and "real", not so over-the-top... very hard to explain in layman's terms, but my heart rejoices in his voice!
