This Time Tomorrow
Marit Larsen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She looks for all the signs
Checks your shirt when you get home
To make sure
She keeps an eye on your telephone
Instead of asking you she asks everyone you're with
And ends up in dark conclusions you're not alone

She calls you up repeatedly
Knows where you're at all the time

[Chorus]
At night you tell her she's all you long for
But she knows by your face there has got to be more
Her eyes are too narrow, her legs are too long
She knows by this time tomorrow you'll be gone

She used to be ahead
She had thrilling and exciting things to say
She kept you on your toes all the way
But know the tides have turned
You have come too close to knowing her
God forbid you know what she's really like

When she sleeps she keeps her make up on
She prefers to live in a lie

[Chorus]
You'll be gone

Da da da-da da da da
Da da da-da da da da
Na na na-na na na na

[Chorus]
You'll be gone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Marit Larsen's song This Time Tomorrow are about a woman who is desperately trying to keep her partner by her side. She is very insecure, and therefore, she checks for signs of infidelity from her partner constantly. The woman becomes quite paranoid, checking her partner's shirt and keeping an eye on his phone, instead of asking him directly. She even ends up asking other people who her partner is with, and assumes that he is hiding something from her. At night, when the partner tells her that she is all he longs for, she cannot trust him as she believes that there has got to be more to his feelings than what he is saying. The woman's insecurities are so deep that she knows that by the next day, he will be gone, leaving her behind.

As the song progresses, we learn that the woman was very exciting and thrilling at the beginning of the relationship. She kept her partner on his toes with her words and actions. However, things have changed, and now the woman is afraid of her partner knowing who she really is. She sleeps with her makeup on, preferring to live in a lie rather than risk her partner seeing her as she truly is. The song ends with the heartbreaking realization that the woman knows her partner will eventually leave her, no matter how desperately she tries to hold onto him.

Overall, the lyrics of This Time Tomorrow serve as a melancholic reminder that love can be fragile, and the fear of losing it can often drive people to desperation.
