@kultiplexify I'm about 99% on the same stance as you are with this. But I also see the good Karkat's done as well, even if it's insignificant in the end.

Karkat is made to have obvious character flaws and it's good that he has them. The problems just arise when people start hailing him as a saint and get all defensive when their favourite angry fuckboy gets even the slightest of negative comments.

Fortunately, those people are rare nowadays.

P.S.I.Guess: I get how you feel about the first thing, it can get stressful and heated in debates for seemingly no reason and I'm no stranger to it.

Reading back my comments I realize how much of an asshole I sound like, but it's just that, whether I like it or not, certain things in HS has made a permanent mark on my brain, and I get very heated when people miss something that I have been mulling over for so long, with actual Hussie-backed thoughts and ideas.

I apologize if my tone upset anyone. And as much as I'm sick of HS (2009 was long ago my friends), it's still kind of a part of me, nobody really gets out of being a HS fan without being marked or scarred in some fashion.

But for the sake of clarity I welcome and support most discussions about it, at the very least so we can make sense of the garbled weird plot shit that Hussie has been torturing us with.

What I'm trying to say is I appreciate your input, even if we disagree.

Yes, we all have to remind ourselves from time to time all these characters are still 13 year old chidren. Even if they're part of a vast brutal and conquering alien empire, they can be nervous, terrified, awkward and so on. Karkat being scared shitless is not surprising, I think most of us would react the same way in a situation like that; and often a problem has to get so bad that it forces us to act.

I think it's a valid interpretation that Karkat saw that the final showdown with Gamzee would essentially end up with everyone except the clown dead. That was the point where Karkat was cornered and he had no other choice but use whatever he could to save whatever he can.

Cosmic importance is also a very big deal in HS. It does try to tell a story (the actual SBURB/SGRUB sessions), but the symbolism of everything also runs very deep and Hussie intended to deliver his message through these means.

Yes for one, the Alpha Timeline (Caliborn's timeline) will override everything. If Caliborn's ascensions requires Equius/Tavros/Nepeta/Feferi dead, but not the entirety of the beta trolls then that's how it's going to be. The Alpha Timeline does not compromise.

But I also think there's another angle of symbolism related to Karkat and that is being a cancerous cell. A rogue agent in paradox space who wasn't even supposed to exist, since mutants like him are culled on sight.

The fact that he messed up the Beta kids' universe, by giving it 'cancer' is also an echo of this. And there are many many more ways that Karkat messed up, almost as if he was intended to fuck up.

Because his suckage is apparently a part of the Alpha Timeline as well.

@kultiplexify let me propose my thought, although i'll be honest it's got no evidence
maybe it could be that the deaths of his friends forced karkat to come out of hiding? to man up? karkat's effectively all talk, and i'd probably do effectively the same thing if in his same situation, with that ability or not

like you mentioned in the other comment, cosmic importance
karkat had to wait, that's how things were meant to go by for the manchild to happen

but i do understand where you're coming from, i see your point
i'm just saying

even though karkat's been through a lot at this point, he's still karkat
i'm pretty sure if you found out that the chill guy of your group randomly went on a murder rampage for literally no reason you'd be shit-scared too and only come out of hiding when you believed you had to, if you had to

The fact that this has a leitmotif to Karkat’s theme makes it even more disturbing.

P.S.2.Electric.Boogaloo: I also don't think you sounded like an asshole, so don't worry.

but yeah, that's my two cents, do with it what you will

i agree with you on effectively all of it, just trying to point out a few things, see if you can disprove 'em y'know?

For everyone who thinks it's talking about Calliope or somehow relating to her, the title of the song is a reference to another one of Hussie's works called Midnight Calliope. It's about clowns I believe. Since this is a Gamzee theme, the title worked well.

Digaddog

But alot of hussies works have double meanings.

celadonk

A “calliope” is a kind of keyboard instrument commonly associated with circuses (circi?)

manda panda

I also believe that one of the characters in starlight calliope basically go insane, which only relates to Gamzee more
