Darling Pretty

It's time to come away on the changing tide
Time to come away, darling pretty
And I need you darling by my side
Heal me with a smile, darling pretty
Heal me with a smile and a heart of gold
Carry me awhile, my darling pretty
Just like a castaway
Lost upon an endless sea
I saw you far away
Come to rescue me
Cast away the chains, darling pretty
Cast away the chains away behind
Take away my pain, my darling pretty
And the chains that once were yours and mine
There will come a day, darling pretty
There will come a day when hearts can fly
Love will find a way, my darling pretty
Find a heaven for you and I
Love will find a way, my darling pretty
Find a heaven for you and I
In "Darling Pretty," Mark Knopfler sings about his lover, who he refers to as "Darling Pretty". It is important to note that the song is not only a love song to his lover, but also an ode to the healing power of love. In the first verse, Knopfler urges his lover to leave everything behind and come away with him, as it is time to embark on a new journey together. He also tells her that he needs her by his side.
The second verse focuses on the power of love to heal. Knopfler asks his lover to heal him with a smile, and he depicts her as having a heart of gold. He also urges her to carry him, indicating that he has some emotional burden that he requires help with. The third verse appears to focus on the past, which Knopfler wishes to leave behind. He asks his lover to cast away their chains, which he refers to as their pain, and urges her to take him away from his aches and sorrows.
The final verse is the culmination of the song's message. Knopfler promises his lover that there will come a day when their love will transcend worldly pain and suffering. He implies that love can transcend the physical world and take them to a higher spiritual level, which he describes as "heaven" in the final line. Overall, "Darling Pretty" is a powerful portrayal of the healing power of love, and how it can take people away from their past and into a brighter future.
