Brilliant, I was able to speak with Mark Morgan a few years ago. A truly devoted artist.

I think it's amazing how the past still has so much for us to discover. I just learned today that the bone-chilling ambient in Fallout 1 intro ("Vats of Goo" by Mark Morgan) was basically an imitation of Brian Eno's track "Alternative 3". I can definitely hear 90's industrial/ambient trademarks when the sirens come in this track (Instinct Ambient compilations to be precise). It is also said that while making the soundtrack he also 'borrowed ideas' from Keiji Haino, Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode and members of Front Line Assembly. Well I don't know about these yet, but the similarities between "Vats of Goo" and "Alternative 3" are UNCANNY. Can't blame him for that though – the result is legendary.

It’s an imitation & yet it’s very different. I much prefer this version to Alternative 3.
