The Bike Song
Mark Ronson & The Business Intl Lyrics

I run around town, around round the town
With the pedal to the metal
The pedal to whatever
I run around town, around round the town
With the pedal to the metal
The pedal to whatever
I run around town, around round the town
With the pedal to the metal
The pedal to whatever
I run around town, around round the town
With the pedal to the me
The pedal to whatever

Shootin' round these tricky bends
I hear a conversation in my head
Thinkin' of the place to be
I sing a little melody instead
I won't argue with myself,
Today my legs are gettin' some help.
My mama tells me I should stop
Go and get a real job
That can't be the way that I roll
And everybody's growing up,
Having kids and paying rent
And I'm getting count of it all

[Chorus]
Gonna ride my bike until I get home
Gonna ride my bike until I get home
Gonna ride my bike until I get home
Gonna ride my bike until I get home

Thinking 'bout the girl I met,
A phone call that I haven't made yet.
All the things I've done this week,
And all the things I should've done instead.
I sweep the pavements and the parks,
I hope I get home before its dark

My mama tells me I should stop
Go and get a real job
That can't be the way that I roll
And everybody's growing up, having kids and paying rent
And I'm getting count of it all

[Chorus]

I can't understand it, but I can't really stand them
Girls love cars, cars cause harm to the planet
Don't you wanna take a joyride on my tandem
Humming on a huffy, don't I look so handsome
Bass to bikes there so nice there priceless
Working on my calves, the triceps to biceps,
Bypass the gas stop at traffic lights
I get a round round without a driver's license
Hello (hello) you walking, (farewell) farewell I'm off then
And I'm whipping through the city
With a forty and a fifty Polly popping on my wheelie

My mama tells me I should stop
Go and get a real job
That can't be the way that I roll
And everybody's growing up,
Having kids and paying rent
And I'm getting count of it all

[Chorus]

And I'm whipping through the city
With forty and a fifty Polly popping on my wheelie

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The Bike Song by Mark Ronson & The Business Intl is a tune about the freedom and pure joy of riding a bike. The song's central message is about being carefree and living life as it should be lived, not allowing anyone to put them down, and questioning the status quo. The song's opening verses talk about how the singer runs around town with the pedal to the metal, which symbolizes the desire to go as fast and as far as possible. The singer hears a conversation in their head, but rather than getting bogged down in a mental argument, the singer chooses to sing a melody instead, suggesting that they choose to live in the moment rather than worrying about everything. The chorus affirms this by saying that the singer will keep riding their bike until they get home, emphasizing that they will keep living life to the fullest.

The second verse talks about the things the singer thinks about while riding, including a girl they met that they haven't called yet and the things they should've done instead of what they did. They end the verse by hoping they get home before it gets dark, suggesting a sense of urgency in living life to the fullest. The last verse begins by questioning the conventional wisdom that prioritizes getting a "real job" over pursuing one's passion. The singer then states that they are tired of everyone growing up and conforming to society's expectations. Rather than succumbing to this pressure, the singer chooses to live life on their terms, riding their bike through the city with Polly popping on their wheelie.

Wow... Mark Ronson really has an ear for the best music of yesteryear. That guy can reach into the past, create new music from an old era, and make it modern and fresh and worth listening to.
This guy has earned (and continues to earn) his success.

@krashd

His rendition Radiohead's Just is the best song for showing his talent, he's a producer first and foremost but in that song he plays every instrument and does it spectacularly.
