My absolute favorite tune in the entire series of KQ that I played. (skipped out on 8)
So serene, so wonderful and so peaceful; yet it has a hint of sadness and longing in there.

@Groommiser When we talked in the past, I believe he told me that he didn't do any composing work on KQ8 except play a few instruments. But just to make sure, before I released the KQ8 soundtrack this week, I asked again. Mark Seibert said, "As I recall, I played some classical guitar on some of the pieces, but I think it was mostly written by Ben and Kevin." But Mark didn't save anything from the production.

@Xeen Music This might help you btw. I've done a lot of talking with KQ8 team members and what I was told was that development on KQ8 started in the second half of 1995 immediately after Torin's Passage was finished, and that the entirety of that team was what comprised the initial team of KQ8. This is reflected as being true in that if you look at the initial making of video for KQ8 from 1996, Mark Seibert is listed as Producer, and Rob Kenny is the Lead Programmer (same roles they played on Torin's Passage). By 1997, Mark would be Co-Director, and Kenny would be off the project.

Given this, these were the people who were involved in Torin's Passage's music:

It's possible they might have some early (1995-1996) KQ8 tracks, if any indeed exist, since KQ8 went through around at least 2 teams. KQ8 went through 2 different art directors, three different lead animators, 2 different lead programmers, etc. Perhaps musicians changed as well over the course of it.

@Xeen Music Have you reached out to Mark Seibert about this? I know as time went on his role went from being Producer to essentially being Co-Director and project lead as Roberta's day-to-day involvement (according to team members I've spoken to) diminished. I'm just wondering given Mark's history of being a music guy at Sierra if perhaps he may have composed early pieces in say 1996-early 1997.

I always thought the music was the most redeeming feature of King's Quest 7, with this piece in particular being a standout example. I sometimes just lingered in this area just to hear this beautiful theme. I still enjoy it to this day.

I was always curious as to where the loop section began, as this piece is composed as a Baroque-style set of variations on a ground bass. I could listen forever and not realize the music has looped. Where is the loop point in the game version of this theme?

It would be different if it was not interrupted by the "Oak Tree" song at one of the central frequently walked through areas. Which, by the way, brings us to another song that is far longer than anyone would spend in a location...

@Xeen Music So it has an inner and outer loop. No wonder they cut it. Even with the cut, it is unlikely that most players stay long enough on the screens where it plays to hear it loop even once.

Let's hope this makes sense...
The track was composed with a length of 4:20. After playing through the first time, it jumps back to 1:44 and then plays through till the end and keep this cycle up forever.

But for this MIDI sound recording...
It plays to 4:20, jumps to 1:44, plays to 4:20, jumps to 0:00, plays to 4:20, jumps to 1:44, plays to 4:20, then ends.
