As depressing and visually disturbing as this ending is, I think it makes the most sense for how a revolutionary leader fighting slavery like Markus would want to act. He needed to show the humans that he would rather die than be enslaved. But I think the president should have had the military stand down like in the kiss or sing endings. I would think that watching an Android literally set itself on fire in sacrifice for its people would be more striking to the public than a random kiss or a song.
