Lady Of Catrine
Marmalade Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh the Geese fly and the Peewhit sing
As I ride on my Horse, on the first day of Spring
And the river flows o'er the grass so green
As I fly to my Lady, of Catrine

And in my mind, the Church bell rings
Could it be, just for me, on the first day of Spring?
Some wedding scene, upon a village green
Wish it were me, and my Lady of Catrine

Well the wind is fresh and my eyes are bright
As I see my Lady's castle come into sight

And I'll bow to her, like a King to Queen
Then I'll kiss my sweet Lady, of Catrine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Marmalade's song "Lady Of Catrine" depict the singer's romantic journey to visit his beloved Lady of Catrine on the first day of Spring. Amidst the beauty of nature - with geese flying and peewhits singing - the singer rides his horse towards his lover's castle. He imagines the church bells ringing just for him, signaling a potential wedding on the village green with his Lady of Catrine. Finally, as he approaches her castle, he envisions bowing to her like a king to a queen before giving her a loving kiss.

This song uses vivid images of nature and the romanticized ideal of chivalry to convey the singer's deep love for his Lady. The use of the "first day of Spring" adds an uplifting and fresh atmosphere to the lyrics. The reference to a potential wedding on the village green further adds to the romantic aspect of the song.

PLEASE join the Dean Ford Singer/Songwriter Facebook group to get our #s up! We're hoping Dean will do a live chat. Listen to Reflections of my Life and remember what a great Singer/Songwriter he is. Jimi Hendricks said he had the best song of 1967.

@madaxemanbeer Hi, I put Dean Ford's name in on many of my Marms vids to make clear it's not Graham's cover band. JGK is a first rate bass and original member, but I simply prefer the original stuff up until Dean left. Also make the differentation now and then for those who don't know the personnel history..

I like very much this song. But there is no complete lyrics of "Lady of Catrine" in Internet. Somebody could post it?
