Absolutely love this song! Takes me back to 1976 when I was in the Navy in San Diego. We would go yo the clubs and every band that we saw would cover this! It was ICONIC!! There were a bunch of songs in this genre that they have more recently labelled “yacht rock”, but this one truly stands out! I love the backstory that Peter Beckett talks about in interviews! Yes, the song is based on a true story and everybody new the song was gonna be a hit from the time it was presented as a demo until it was recorded and released! This song is ageless with its vocal harmonies, well placed pauses, vocal and guitar hooks, and crisp, somewhat edgy lead guitar work! Great job, Peter!

This song has a deep memory for me. My sister died when this song just came out and she would play it all the time for her son who was 4. It was not long after she died I had my nephew with me in the grocery store and the song came on. He yelled that’s my mom’s song where is she. I couldn’t say anything all I could do was cry. Yeah, a perfectly produced piece of music. The band members were so talented, and easy on the eye lol but it was the arrangement too.
