Hailing from Liverpool, England, fans first got a taste of Marshaβs talent as the singing half of the duo Floetry. Their 2000 debut Floetic produced signature singles like βSay Yes" and "Getting Late" as well as four Grammy nods. Following the 2005 release of their second studio album, FloβOlogy, the ladies veered creatively and personally. While the split was difficult, Marsha continued to build a name for herself as a songwriter and producer, creating βButterfliesβ for the late Michael Jackson and other hits for artists such as Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Jamie Foxx and Nas. Sheβs been nominated for a total of six Grammys and has been honored by BMI as their Songwriter of the Year.
Over the years, Marsha has stayed relevant as an artist via touring, writing/producing and mixtapes like 2007βs Neo Soul is Dead, 2008βs Yours Truly and 2010βs Yours Sincerely. She also appeared as a featured artist on projects from Patti Labelle, The Game, Busta Rhymes, Jamie Foxx and Earth, Wind & Fire, among others. Eventually, Marsha signed with Dr. Dreβs Aftermath Records however a much-buzzed about solo debut never materialized due to creative glitches. Equipped with plenty of her own talent, she found herself being given songs from producers that were βgreat but not songs that made sense in relation to each other.β Marsha calls her sound βhonest and consistentβ and it was important for her to make an album with an overall cohesive sound. She explains, βI think with an album everything has to make sense, like βWhere is this story going?ββ
But that wasnβt the only situation posing a challenge for Marsha. A basketball player since childhood, when her music career took off, her diet remained the same as when she was regularly active. Constantly on the road touring and promoting wasnβt conducive to a healthy diet and resulted in her gaining 70 pounds in just one year. She finally got serious about her health and lost the weight safely and slowly over about a two-year period.
Now at a strong place mentally and physically, Marshaβs ready to present her sound to the world. The first single, βHope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player),β is an anthem that women and men can relate to. Marsha explains, βItβs the reality of a bad break up. We wanna be decent human beings and say the right thing, you know, βI wish you well.β But this is βEverything that could go wrong for him I want it to because my ego is bruised and Iβm acting out.ββ Thereβve been many songs written about heartbreak, but Marshaβs approach to βHope She Cheats on Youβ gets in your face rather than plays the victim.
LATE NIGHTS & EARLY MORNINGS is destined to be a classic, as Marsha offers a candid glimpse of her life and perspectives as a woman. Inspired by musical icons like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Prince, she concedes there is an overall male influence in her songwriting, such as the assertive sentiments heard on hits like βSay Yes.β She explains, βMy pen and my point of view has a certain aggression to it because Iβve listened to a lot of male influenced music, which I think makes me one of the most outspoken writers out here. Sometimes as a woman you donβt wanna say whatβs on your mind for fear of being judged. But why wouldnβt I say it like that if thatβs how I felt?β Musical peers recruited to contribute to the project include Alicia Keys, a reunion with Dre and Vidal (producers of βSay Yesβ), Just Blaze and Focus.
While her success in the industry is already solidified, Marsha knows itβs never easy to win over fans as a solo artist. Fortunately, she says, βItβs like being thrown in the deep end. βOkay I have to swim? Oh well.β Iβve taken that attitude and itβs carried me forward.β

Give it to you right in the car, that's you
We can first give you some of this, that's you
And you're all out loving that JLove true
Hold up, I can get you fun up
Pull your trigger, go and get your gun up
I'mmatie my hair up top
Keep it number 1, that's easy mathematics
Keep it number 1, baby, ain't no static
Got that hourglass for you, baby, look at these legs
No brakes, go green, no red
If you wanna kill the body, gotta start with the head
Put it on you, I'm a need about 4-5 beds
Cause I love my papi
I didn't see it, but I see it now
Think I love you, and I need you know
Ain't had none like you in a while
I luh ya papi, I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
Yeah, that my papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
I put it down for a brother like you
Give it to you right in the car, that's you
We can first give you some of this, that's you
And you're all out loving that JLove true
All day, 24 hour
Feeling like I want one when it's crowded
If you wanna hear your name, I shout it
Boy, you the shit, go and take a power shower
And I'm feeling like it's me and you, I don't doubt it
You can drive it how you want, I ain't trying to count mileage
I'm loving me some you
Started from the bottom, baby, then we went roof
Cause I love my papi
I didn't see it, but I see it now
Think I love you, and I need you know
Ain't had none like you in a while
I luh ya papi, I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
Yeah, that my papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
I love you, mami, l-l love you, mami
Baby, you the shit, l-l love you, mami
Shorty got me catching feelings
And that rave drop reaching for the ceiling
Southside Bronx, Teterboro just overseas
Take the pants out here, drop to her knees
Oh my, I'm a don like Omar
Speed it up slow ma, throw it back, toma
Rock-rock Gators like my detroit players
You can hate to love us, you can love to hate us
From the bottom it been real
From the bottom shorty been trill
And even though we made it to the top
Still J.Lo from the-the the block
Ey, I love you, mami, I love you, mami
Baby, you the shit, l-l love you, mami
I think I love just who you are
We haven't grown apart, this is just the start
Where life begin all the way to the end
And we started as friends, boy I do love
I luh ya papi, I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
I luh ya papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
Yeah, that my papi
I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi
In Marsha Ambrosius's song "Luh Ya," she expresses her love for her "papi" with lyrics that are both seductive and confident. The song begins with her proclaiming that she's willing to give it to him "right in the car," while also teasing him with the suggestion that he might need a gun if he wants to keep up with her. Throughout the song, Marsha asserts her dominance both sexually and emotionally, using language that suggests that she's the one in control. She also makes references to her body, telling him to "look at these legs" and claiming she'll need "4-5 beds" for all that love she has to give.
The chorus of the song, "I luh ya papi," which repeats numerous times throughout, is a slight nod to Jennifer Lopez's hit song "I Luh Ya Papi". The overall message of Marsha's song is one of affection and devotion, with her declaring her love and commitment to her partner.

The look in your eyes
The feel, the warmest touch of your hand
The first I knew it would be the last
The last time that we can see someone elseΒ
And no one else for me will do, ooh, yeah, yeah
And no matter what I'll always be right here for you, yeah
It don't matter what they say I'll stay so true to you, baby
Whatever happens till the end I'll be so good to you
It ain't a question if I love you because I
You know I luh ya, babe
(Luh ya) Said I luh ya, babe
(Luh ya) You know I luh ya, babe
(Luh ya) I luh ya, babe
You're still running these streetsΒ
Long as you come home to me
Baby, baby
The way that you are, don't change
I'll stay right here where you are, from the bottom I know
That we've come so far, it's not honest
But I takes care of us, I know
You will always be the one, yeah
And no matter what I'll always be right here for you, yeah
