Der Wolf

The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was already dismembered in 1920
Most of it was 1,000-year-old Hungarian territory, but the Austrians controlled the Monarchy politically and generally militarily after 180 years of Turkish occupation, after the Habsburgs expelled the Turkish invaders from the territory of Hungary
The Turks tried to convert the Hungarians to Islam during this 180-year occupation, but they were unsuccessful
However, some of the people living in the former territory of Serbia managed to convert to Islam, and they became the "Bosniaks" already then.
(this led to a genocide by the Serbs against the Bosniaks in the 90s during the Serb-Bosnian-Croatian war)
The Hungarians were generally unable to maintain order even though most of the Monarchy was not Austrian but Hungarian territory
It could only be settled with Austrian military help, and the laws were also passed by the Austrians, because during the Monarchy the Hungarian government could not operate any normal political system or military.
The Austrians tried to Germanize the population of Hungary. In 1848-49, a war of independence broke out on the part of the Hungarians, which was defeated by the Austrians, and the 13 Hungarian military commanders who participated in it were executed by a military firing squad.
After that, the Austrians did not try to Germanize, about 500,000 Austrians or Germans, the "Swabians", settled under the Monarchy, who were forcibly conscripted into the Waffen SS by the Germans in 1944, but the battles in Budapest and Hungary were defeated by the Germans after two months of hard fighting. After the siege of Budapest
The remaining Swabian civilians had all their property confiscated by the Russians and were deported back to Germany after the end of the Second World War (out of the 500,000 Germans or Austrians who settled there, only 200,000 now live in Hungary because of this).
So the "Anschluss" occurred much later after the dismemberment of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and it only applied to the territory of Austria
The disappearance of foreign intelligence was more characteristic of Stalin, but Hitler also removed Jewish persons from any leading position, whether they were in the media, journalists, doctors, or politicians.
The German offensive that took place in 6 weeks was really a great military achievement on the part of the Germans, especially on the part of Hitler, who fought for 4 years as a soldier in the First World War without success, but as the chancellor of Germany in 6 weeks he ran down the Maginot Line, which was believed to be impregnable at the time, and smashed the combined British and French forces armies and the French Foreign Legion only existed on paper and the Germans occupied all of France in 6 weeks
I don't know how guilty Keitel could have been of crimes against humanity, because although it is a fact that he was a member of the NSDAP, which was not mandatory even for the highest-ranking German officers to join, but Keitel was a member now, whether on a patriotic basis or because he was actually a race-hating racist, I don't know. to know
The Wehrmacht did not commit crimes against humanity against civilians, they usually hanged partisans as they were not subject to any military legislation, but the Soviet political officers were also shot dead by the Wehrmacht soldiers.
"Komissarbefehl" was already officially issued at the beginning of the initiation of Barbarossa, as the Germans considered the Soviet political military officers to be spies
I think the poorly executed execution of Keitel was intentional on the part of the Americans: since the Americans could carry out any execution either by firing squad or traditional hanging after 1945, but in the case of Keitel, the trapdoor was small and he crushed his face when it opened underneath him and finally died of suffocation. that blood was pouring from his head from everywhere until death by suffocation stopped

That is absolutely incredible family history and what an honor to have a father who was present at such occasions. Did he observe any of the trial itself or interact with any of the prisoners. I wonder if your father felt any relief at not having to look into the living eyes of a man like Hermann Goering. Terrifying enough he had to share a gymnasium sized room with men like Ernst Kaltenbrunner or Hans Frank or Alfred Rosenberg even for a brief time. Accounts I've read suggest that the mere presence of Rudolf Hess could make anyone's blood run cold though I know he was spared death by hanging. Did any of them break down or make some other sort of scene when they finally came face to face with the gallows ? Or was it something he preferred not to discuss ? Any memory he shared that you'd be willing to pass along I'd love to hear. I was a history major and very few events in history fascinate me more than the Nuremberg Trials.

Rex Morgan

My father, Capt. Rex Morgan, US Army, was Chief of Mortuaries of the European Theater, during and after WW2. He and his men were responsible for establishing temporary American cemeteries on the continent, several of which became permanent. He also had two claims to fame in that role. He was in charge of General George S. Patton's funeral after the general died from a broken neck sustained in a car accident. He picked out the his coffin, prepared his body for burial and accompanied the pallbearers to the grave. He can be seen several times in news reels of the event. Dad and his men were present at the Nuremberg hangings. Once the hanged men were declared dead, they were placed in wooden coffins and photographed, both clothed and naked. The bodies were driven under armed guard to a crematory in Munich and cremated in secret. My father placed Hermann Goering into the crematory oven first. The others followed and according to father’s records it took most of the day. He scattered the ashes in secret and destroyed the metal urns with a hatchet. All of this responsibility at the tender age of 25. Dad went on to live a successful and fascinating life.
