In 2018, he released "Friends", a collaboration with British singer Anne-Marie which peaked in the top 20 in the US. Months later, his second studio album, Joytime II, was released with singles "Tell Me" and "Check This Out". "Happier", a collaboration with British band Bastille, was released in August and became his highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 at #2. In 2019, he earned $40 million, ranking second on the list of highest paid DJs compiled by Forbes. In 2020, he and American rapper Juice Wrld released "Come & Go", from the latter's posthumous album Legends Never Die; the song reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, matching "Happier" as his highest-charting song. In 2021, his album Shockwave earned him a Grammy nomination.
Marshmello wears a custom helmet for public appearances. His identity was unknown, but was confirmed to be Chris Comstock in late 2017 by Forbes.
Marshmello's stage name, an alternative spelling of "marshmallow", and his marshmallow mascot head were both inspired by Canadian electro house music producer and DJ deadmau5, who also notably uses an alternate spelling for his stage name and performs wearing a "dead mouse" mascot head.
(2) Marshmello (Blackbird) is an alias of Marsha Smith (London, UK). She is DJ, radio host, music consultant, supervisor, mentor, networking and creative developer, also notable for vocals on tracks by The Funky Lowlives or Basement Jaxx.

Salud, muchacho, por esa mujer
'Toy cansao' de pensarte
Con el pecho roto
Hay sol, pero hace frío desde que no estás
Me paso tomando
Mirando tus fotos
Hubiera dicho lo que siento
Pa' no dejar na' guardao'
Los beso' que no te di
Te los hubiera robao'
Extrañarte me tiene
Con los ojos colorao'
No es lo mismo estar solo
Que estar solo enamorao'
Dije que te olvidé
Pero no te había olvidao'
(No te había olvidao')
Ay, ay, ay
También dije que te superé
Y no te había superao'
(Y no te había superao')
Borracho dije que ya te olvidé
Pero no te había olvidao'
(No te había olvidao')
Ay, ay, ay
También dije que te superé
Y no te había superao'
(Y no te había superao')
Y entrando a la disco la miré, la miré, la miré
Y estaba bailando sola
Bailando sola
Me le pegué, me pegué, me pegué
Y así se fueron las horas
Un par de horas
Dime, sin pena solo dime
Pídeme lo que quiera'
Menos que yo te olvide
Cuando uno está tomando
Las palabras no mide
Hoy te pido perdón
Si algún día borracho
Dije que te olvidé
Pero no te había olvidao'
(No te había olvidao')
Ay, ay, ay
También dije que te superé
Y no te había superao'
(Y no te había superao')
Borracho dije que ya te olvidé
Pero no te había olvidao'
(No te había olvidao')
Ay, ay, ay
También dije que te superé
Y no te había superao'
(Y no te había superao')
Entrando a la disco la miré, la miré, la miré
Y estaba bailando sola
Bailando sola
Me le pegué, me pegué, me pegué
Y así se fueron las horas
Un par de horas
La miré, la miré, la miré
Y estaba bailando sola
Bailando sola
Me le pegué, me pegué, me pegué
Y así se fueron las horas
Un par de horas
Opa
¿Cómo te voy a olvidar yo a ti?
Esta noche me sacan de aquí borracho
Y contigo
Sí, señor
Por ti mujer
Salud
The lyrics to Marshmello's song "El Merengue" depict a person who is tired and heartbroken from thinking about a past love. The singer expresses their longing for the person, stating that it feels cold even when the sun is shining. They confess to spending their time drinking and looking at pictures of the person, wanting to erase them from their mind but unable to do so. The singer regrets not expressing their feelings and not giving the person the kisses they deserved. They acknowledge that being alone is not the same as being alone while in love.
The chorus reveals the conflicted emotions of the singer. They claim to have forgotten about the person, but deep down, they haven't truly moved on. They admit to pretending that they have surpassed the feelings, even when they haven't. The lyrics emphasize the struggle of trying to move on from a past love while still longing for their presence.
In the second verse, the singer recounts seeing the person at a nightclub, dancing alone. They approach the person and spend hours together, enjoying each other's company. The bridge of the song portrays the singer's vulnerability, admitting that when intoxicated, they might have said hurtful things but now ask for forgiveness.
