It's Ok Not To Be Ok
Marshmello & Demi Lovato Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Feeling like a drop in the ocean
That don't nobody notice
Maybe it's all just in your head
Feeling like you're trapped in your own skin
And now your body's frozen
Broken down, you've got nothing left

When you're high on emotion
And you're losing your focus
And you feel too exhausted to pray
Don't get lost in the moment
Or give up when you're closest
All you need is somebody to say

It's okay not to be okay
It's okay not to be okay
When you're down and you feel ashamed
It's okay not to be okay

Feeling like your life's an illusion
And lately, you're secluded
Thinking you'll never get your chance
Feeling like you got no solution
It's only 'cause you're human
No control, it's out of your hands

When you're high on emotion
And you're losing your focus
And you feel too exhausted to pray
Don't get lost in the moment
Or give up when you're closest
All you need is somebody to say

It's okay not to be okay
It's okay not to be okay
When you're down and you feel ashamed
It's okay not to be okay

When you're high on emotion
And you're losing your focus
And you feel too exhausted to pray
Don't get lost in the moment
Or give up when you're closest
All you need is somebody to say

It's okay not to be okay (ohh)
It's okay not to be okay (no, no, no)
When you're down and you feel ashamed
(When you feel ashamed)

It's okay not to be okay (no, no)
It's okay not to be okay

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Marshmello's song "Ok Not To Be Ok" touch on the important issue of mental health and how it can make you feel isolated and alone. The first verse talks about feeling like a small, insignificant part of the world that nobody notices. This can translate to feeling like your problems are not important or that nobody will care if you try to reach out for help. The second part of the verse describes feeling trapped in your own skin, which likely refers to anxiety or depression that can make you feel like you cannot escape your own thoughts and feelings.

The chorus of the song provides comfort and reassurance that it is okay to not be okay. This message is important because it can be difficult to reach out for help when you are struggling with mental health issues. The second verse touches on feeling like your life is an illusion and that you will never get a chance to improve your situation. This phrase likely refers to feeling stuck or hopeless, and that there is no way to make things better.

The second chorus repeats the message that it is okay to not be okay, and that it is important to find someone who can provide support and comfort during difficult times. The song's lyrics provide an important message of hope and remind listeners that it is okay to struggle with mental health issues, and that seeking help is a sign of strength.

What does this say about the people who are our parents? Our generation is the saddest one yet. I know it's evolution so our brain is bigger and all so we feel more etc but it just goes to show our parents generation is really messed up to have broken us so much

For some youngsters, Internet maybe the reason of their sadness but you can't say that for everyone....we all have our reasons. Some are worried about their academics and grades, some got family issues, some are afraid to come out as themselves, their sexualities aren't being accepted, their insecurities.

Not everything revolves around Internet and not everyone is sad bcs of social medias. Just let them be. They will figure it out.

If are the the saddest generation, it's not for just ONE reason. Understanding this will make so many things better...
