Martha is on record calling this her favorite of all her recordings, and little wonder why. Her performance is a tasteful expression of the spiritual and sexual contentment present when love at its fresh, initiatory stage. Like so many Motown songs, it takes me right back to where I was when it new. Released January 4, 1966, I was in 6th grade, it likely was the first new record I bought that year, and I remember trudging along shopping with my mom in a hell of a blizzard that hit Philadelphia.

This is a beautiful song from early 1966. First heard this one at the end of the Summer 1989 while recovering from severe burns on both of my arms. It sound so sweet in 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, in the 2010's, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, today in 2024, 2029 & beyond. Not much to listen for today.

Absolutely one of the best recordings from Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. Listen carefully to the dramatic orchestration of the strings blending perfectly with background vocals by The Andantes and The Four Tops. And, Martha kills the lead. i remember swaying to this song as a child growing up in the 60's. Loved it then, and still. Fabulous example of a real Love song.

Why are the Andantes and the Four Tops on this record? I remember back in 1966 the radio DJ had to explain to the listeners why there are voices in the background that obviously are not that of the Vandellas. People had called into the radio station complaining that this does not sound like a Martha and the Vandellas recording.

Songs like this one makes me wished I lived in the '60s and '70s. I agree when my mom and aunts tell me music back then was fun to listen and to dance too.
