It has been almost fifty years since I served in the South Vietnam War. But this song a;ways moves me to tears when I think of buddies lost in that senseless war. It still sadden me to think that they were given a chance to grow up and become men. Three of them were still in their teens when they died.

As a young hillbilly, I would wait 'til dark, when the big city stations could finally pound their signal into the mountains where my longwire antenna could catch it. I'd lay there in the dark with a big old tube-type radio playing Motown and just practically faint with pleasure when Martha and the Vandellas were singing. Now everything has changed: I listen on computer to digital music, but the old man that was that boy still thrills when they sing...

I was born in 1994 and I love music from the entire 20th century from the 1900s to the 1990s. When it comes to music, I live by the saying, "Variety is the spice of life." I don't have anything against today's music. I mean, I enjoy Bruno Mars and Imagine Dragons. However, I will be honest about one thing. While I like hip hop and rap as much as the next person, I despise music that involves twerking or anything related to such dancing, such as this song for example.

This is another masterpiece by the Funk Brothers and this fabulous Martha Reeves. They had an edge that nobody had on these complex productions that displays a phenomenal musical intellect all the way around and top to bottom in 1967, and I’m still listening in October 2022. It’s timeless.

One of the greatest tunes of all time. It defines Soul. It is danceable. Its Gospel. Its James Jamerson on Bass. What else do you need to know? Martha Reeves on lead. The Vandellas, one of the underpromoted/underrated groups @ Motown. Love everything they did. Its hard and sweet-You dig the saxophones???? They're easy to overlook/overhear. God...I love how the drums at the beginning. I remember when I would hear that I KNEW this song was on it's way. I would be doing homework listening to my little AM radio station...this would come on and I would stop the homework, get up and dance (sometimes singing Martha's part with my hairbrush as a microphone). I was sooo spoiled....that this was typical of the music playing on AM Top 40. Makes me smile :)

I was on the USS Independence CVA62 in the gulf of Tonkin in1965. All my memories flood back When I hear this song; the heat and 7 days a week round the clock combat operations for 90 days at a clip. then to the Philippines for 2 weeks and then back on the line again.
