Use brown sugar.. It imparts lots of flavour... And sugar should be used in the crumble mix.. And adding half flour and half oats gives the authentic taste and texture..

the proportion given seems to be for more than one crumble dish as i could see a lot of left over crumble dough and apples. please clarify

Don't you need to add some sugar to the crumble topping? Just flour and butter will taste very bland!

yes we usually do add either approximately half sugar either a horror brown in the crumble topping
