Gone
Martin L. Gore Lyrics

What happened to you
What happened to you
You got lost
Somewhere between
There and here
Somewhere between
So far so near
Somewhere between
What happened to you
Someone has been removed
What happened to her
What happened to her
She got lost
Somewhere between
There and here
Somewhere between
So far so near
She got lost
Somewhere between
What happened to her
You used to be so young
Used to be so young
It was going to take so long
It had almost gone
What is his name
What is his name
What is his name
The song "Gone" by Martin L. Gore talks about feeling lost and tired, both physically and emotionally. The song describes how someone has changed and got lost somewhere between the past and present. The first verse describes how the person has become tired and lost track of themselves, asking "what happened to you?" The second verse talks about someone else who has been removed, and the singer questions "what happened to her?" The third verse remembers how the person used to be young, but time has passed and it almost feels as though it is too late.
The overall theme of the song seems to be about trying to figure out what went wrong and what caused the person to become lost. It could be interpreted as a message to oneself, or to someone else, as a way of seeking answers to questions that have been left unanswered. The repetition of the line "somewhere between, there and here, so far so near" emphasizes how close the person is to being found, but they still can't quite grasp onto the answer.
Overall, the song highlights the struggle of coming to terms with changes in oneself and others, and trying to find a way to move forward.

Gone was always my favorite on Counterfeit, hard hitting, moving beat yet melodious with classic DM sounds. Simply awesome.

โโ@@davidellis5141es indeed David. You can't beat his deep resonant and soulful voice, which gives the song real atmosphere and depth. In comparison this version sounds like a child singing. For me, The Comsat Angels version reigns supreme. And where is the bass??? Its very 80s production - all middle - but no bottom end. And sometimes synths just don't cut it. It's a poor cover.
