Juliet & Romeo
Martin Solveig Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

World's moving so slow
Got my hand out the window
Lose track of time and memory
Losing my mind in the palm trees
Got me believing you're so shy
You catch me looking and you hide your eyes
Leaving behind the reality
Become the cool of formalities

You know we should be dancing
Tell me that you wanna go, dancing
You and me in stereo, dancing
Intoxicated, this is how we wanna be
You and I, we gotta keep dancing
Oh yeah, sweating in the afterglow, dancing
Juliet and Romeo, dancing
Intoxicated, this is how we wanna be
Girl, stop hiding

Hide
Oh-oh
Girl, stop hiding

World's moving so slow
Got my hand out the window
Lose track of time and memory
Losing my mind in the palm trees

You know we should be dancing
Oh yeah, tell me that you wanna go, dancing
You and me in stereo, dancing
Intoxicated, this is how we wanna be
You and I, we gotta keep dancing
Oh yeah, sweating in the afterglow, dancing
Juliet and Romeo, dancing
Intoxicated, this is how we wanna be
Girl, stop hiding

Baby, you know we should be dancing
Dancing
Dancing
Intoxicated, this is how we wanna be
Girl, stop hiding

Overall Meaning

The song Juliet & Romeo by Martin Solveig and Roy Woods is about getting lost in the moment of a summer romance, letting go of reality, and enjoying the rush of the present. The lyrics start off by describing the feeling of being in a slow-moving world while sticking your hand out of the window, possibly while driving through palm trees. The scene sets the mood for the rest of the song, which is all about losing track of time, reality, and memory, intoxicated by the moment of partying and dancing.

The song's title "Juliet & Romeo" refers to the famous tragic Shakespearean love story, which sets up the idea of two lovers who refuse to be separated despite the odds. Roy Woods describes his attraction to a shy girl who hides her eyes when she catches him looking, creating a playful and sensual atmosphere. The lyrics encourage the girl to stop hiding and let go of her inhibitions to dance with him. The chorus repeats the idea of dancing and being intoxicated, showing the complete immersion in the moment.

Overall, Juliet & Romeo is about the excitement of living in the present, disregarding the world's rules, and exploring fleeting summer romances. The song sets the mood of being at a summer party, and the lyrics convey a message of letting go and living in the now.

I'll listen back to this song and always be reminded of the Coronavirus pandemic, listening to it a lot while in quarantine

@sebastianmartin462

James Thompson this song is 3 months old I feel like you’re not being fair to it, it’s supposed to spread joy and happiness (as intended by Martin himself) Not remind you of bad memories...
I mean I get if you just discovered it or happen to be listening it a lot these days, but come on why mention that it will always remind you of this shitty time

@jjaa123ful

Sebastian Martin Haha no I get you. I happen to think it’s a good song, it’s just that I discovered it recently as the UK was being put into lockdown, and have been listening to it a lot while self-isolating 😂 I just feel if I listened to it in five years, despite agreeing its a happy song, I would be instantly reminded of the pandemic, just because of when I was listening to it a lot. It’s the same with other songs and certain life events

@@jjaa123ful obviously it happens listening to songs in certain moments would remind you of those moments when you listen to them months or years down the line of listening to them.
