Here
Martin Tony Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here, in this enchanted place;
Here, enclosed in your embrace.
Here with you so near to me;
Here is where I want to be.
The world outside may be thrilled by
The treasures that people buy for gold,
But I would rather be thrilled by
The treasures that I alone can hold.
Here, beside the warmth of you,
Here, within a dream for two.

Here, for all eternity;
Here is where I want to be.

My first love in music is 50s R&B, especially Doo Wop, but I have loved Tony Martin's voice since I was a kid...what a beautiful voice this man had.

A thousand listeners to Tony Martin and no comments? This is truly "the cat's pajamas" :-) Can't get any better than this! Absolutely beautiful!

Thanks for posting - I picked up the sheet music at a rummage sale and as with most early 50s songs, you need the full recording to understand why it sold.

You Are Too Beautiful (for one man alone) was also recorded by Sinatra for Capitol records around 1957. It's a lovely version with a nice Nelson Riddle arrangement
By the way, if the melody to "Here" sounds somewhat familiar, it was adapted from Verdi's "Caro nome" (Dearest name), a soprano aria from the opera Rigoletto. Amelita Galli-Curci had a hit with it for Victor around 1920... unusual for a non-American opera singer during the roaring twenties. It might have had a little push from the many Italian immigrants who always treasured beautiful music even if they had never been to an opera -- Enrico Caruso certainly broke the ground for such cross-over popularity.

Paul Anka aslo had a hit with this melody in a very Uptempo, "Tonight My Live Tonight"
