Why Don't We
Martin Turner and Friends Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why don't we break up
Everyone's doing it
Let's fall out of love, love, love
It happens a lot
That is just part of it
Burning just leaves, it's all smoke in the firepit
And I know
We shared a love before
And I could love you
More but let's face it
We ran a good race
It would be a shame to keep running
Don't waste time being sad
You are good
You are cozy
You are someone who knows me
You know me like you know
I toss
I turn
At night
Can only sleep on my
Side, been that way
Since I was
Nine or eight
AND SO SCARED OF MUMMIES!!!
Been taking my medicine, doing just fine
I'm taking my medicine, doing just fine
Taking my medicine, doing just fine
Well I hope you're doing fine
Been taking my medicine, doing just fine
I'm taking my medicine, doing just fine
Taking my medicine, doing just fine
I'm taking my medicine, doing just fine
Taking my medicine, doing just fine
I'm taking my medicine, doing just fine
Taking my medicine, doing just fine
I hope you're doing fine
I hope you're doing fine

I hope you're doing fine
I hope you're doing fine

Overall Meaning

The song "Why Don't We" by Martin Turner and Friends is about a couple who are contemplating breaking up. The first verse suggests that everyone else is breaking up, and the couple should do the same. The chorus repeats the phrase "let's fall out of love" as if it is a common occurrence. The second verse acknowledges that they have had a good relationship in the past, but it is time to move on. The song ends with a repetition of the phrase "I'm taking my medicine, doing just fine" which can be interpreted in a few ways. It could be literal medicine for a medical condition, or it could be a metaphor for moving on and being okay after a breakup.

Sheer pleasure to watch these gentlemen playing their stuff. Ted and Laurie alongside each other on stage - what a treat! On a more regular basis perhaps, gentlemen?

AS an aging player myself, I appreciate what it takes to get up there and rock. Here in the States, Wishbone Ash does not get the airplay they deserve. I never miss an opportunity to turn people on to them. Some of the greatest rock every… Thanks guys!

I was lucky enough to be invited to this amazing gig. One of the best days of my life. As far as I'm concerned this is the real Wishbone Ash and always will be.

Great to see this! Just goes to show there's only 1 man that can bring these WA giants together on stage. Superb 1st time ever twin performance by Ted and Laurie, and what a powerful voice Ted has! Probably always too much of a gentleman to push himself up front like, er, some other guitar heroes. Thanks for sharing this video. My first and only gig of Wishbone Ash was in 1987 (I was 17 years old) so this is more or less the band that I've been missing!

Paul Pecchio

Without a doubt, one of the best and most important groups of great and wonderful English rock, from the early 70's to today. Since I first heard the album Argus in 1973 or '74, I fell in love with the beautiful sound of Wishbone Ash. One of the best records in history, Argus has put this group in the stratosphere. To this day, when I hear one of his songs, I get touched as I first heard it in the '70s. Long live for Wishbone Ash, the best among the best!

I was there! Reason was to thank close friends and Family for their loyal support of Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash. Never forget that memorable day.
