Into my orbit
He sparked and spread like a forest blaze
Took over like a teenage craze
And ma said,
"Tina, he was worth the wait,'
She thinks that I've
Made a grave mistake
Oh God, look at what I've done
I've pulled it all apart, just for fun
Just to see if it would come undone
Now it's all come undone
Last time that he saw me
It was way back in February
And he was smoking like a chimney
He had me swaying like a daisy
When he said,
"Happy Valentine's day, babe,"
And I took the heart-shaped box
And I walked away
Oh God, look at what I've done
I've pulled it all apart, just for fun
Just to see if it would come undone
Now it's all undone
Now I stay out late at night
I do what the heck I like
Adventurousness is alright, I guess
But I like it less and less
And hey, well, that's exactly
What he warned
He said, "If you think this happens every day, babe
You've got a lot to learn,"
Oh God, look at what I've done
I've pulled it all apart, just for fun
Just to see if it would come undone
Just to watch it all come undone
Just to see it all come undone
Now it's all come undone
Yeah, it's all come undone
In the song Undone by Martina Sorbara, the singer tells a story of a passionate and intense relationship that started off wonderfully but ultimately ended in regret. The singer describes the man in question as someone who entered her life like a shooting star, quickly becoming the center of her universe. He was magnetic and exciting, causing her to abandon her previous way of life to be with him. The singer's mother initially approved of their relationship, but eventually disapproved of it once the relationship turned tumultuous.
The chorus of the song repeats the line "Oh God, look at what I've done" as the singer reflects on how she has pulled apart the relationship "just for fun." She admits to intentionally causing chaos and havoc in the relationship, just to see if it would crumble. The heart-shaped box he gave her on Valentine's Day is a symbol of his love that she rejected, throwing away the chance at happiness with him.
As time goes by, the singer realizes that she misses the man but struggles with her newfound independence. She stays out late, indulges in her whims, but ultimately feels unfulfilled. The man forewarned her that their relationship was special and not something that happens every day.
Undone is a bittersweet ballad with a catchy melody that highlights the consequences of carelessness and the regret that follows. It is a relatable story about the complexities of love and the struggles of letting go, even when one is the architect of their own destruction.
