In 1998, following a falling-out of her professional and personal relationship with Tricky, Topley-Bird began pursuing a solo career; however, it was not until 2003 that she released her debut solo album, Quixotic, on Independiente Records. (Tricky appears on one track, Ragga, as producer and guest vocalist.) Upon its release, Quixotic received rave reviews from critics, and was a finalist for the 2003 Mercury Music Prize. Need One, Anything, I Still Feel and Soul Food were released as singles in the UK. In Brazil, the song Lullaby was used in the campaign for the juice powder Clight. The song Sandpaper Kisses is featured on the soundtrack of the video game Fahrenheit (known as Indigo Prophecy in the United States).
The album finally saw a release, of sorts, in the United States in July 2004 when the Palme Pictures label released a "re-designed and re-sequenced" version with a new title (Anything), a trimmed-down tracklisting and all-new cover art.
In 2004, Martina appeared on Into the Sun, a track from Diplo's album Florida. A year later, she made a guest appearance (alongside Roots Manuva) on the Gorillaz track All Alone, on the album Demon Days.
Martina released her second studio album, The Blue God, in May 2008, followed by a collaborative project with Massive Attack, the album "Heligoland" which was released in 2010. She also appeared on the Splitting the Atom EP featured on the track Psyche (Flash Treatment) (released October 2009).
In 2010, she released her third album, Some Place Simple, followed by a collaboration with Mark Lanegan and Warpaint in 2013.

I wanna show you how our love is real
Leave your jacket on the floor
I'm coming around for more
Leave your heat in the bed
I wanna be there by your head
All you got to say
Nobody's coming around today
I'm gonna show you
Show you where the good times start, baby
I wanna show you
I wanna show you where the feeling sparks
Well I'm gonna let you
Take all the time you need
'Cause when the soul starts fallin', baby
We got time to leave
We get trigger happy
Got the feeling all day and night
We get everybody
To sing along little summer night, baby
You get everything I got
And I know you're feeling fine
The sweet, sweet feeling you give to me baby
I wanna have a good time
In the morning
We're all singing
We're all free, yeah
I'm gonna show you
(Show you)
Show you where the good times start, baby
I wanna show you
(Show you)
I wanna show you where the feeling sparks
I'm gonna let you
(Let you)
Take all the time you need
'Cause when the soul starts fallin', baby
We got time to leave
(We got time to leave)
Ever since I was young
I wanted, I wanted to know
Ever since you came along
Feeling so much stronger
Every way that you show
Feelings open to love
I'm gonna show you
(Show you)
Show you where the good times start, baby
I wanna show you
(Show you)
I wanna show you where the feeling sparks
Well I'm gonna let you
(Let you)
Take all the time you need
Take all the time you need
Take all the time you need
Take all the time you need, all the time you need
(Take all the time you need)
Take all the time you need
(Take all the time you need)
Take all the time you need
(Take all the time you need)
Take all the time you need
(Take all the time you need)
Everyway and everyday
You come by and you save me
I want you near, I need you dear
The song "Soul Food" by Martina Topley-Bird is a love song that expresses the feeling of being deeply in love with someone. The first verse expresses a desire to convey the depth of the love and to show how real it is. The second verse is a call for intimacy, urging the partner to leave their jacket on the floor and stay in bed. The chorus is an invitation to stay as long as they want, with nobody else interfering.
The bridge of the song is where the lyrics become more abstract. The singer talks about how they get "trigger happy" and feel the love all day and night, and how they get everybody to sing along. The refrain of "take all the time you need" is repeated several times, perhaps suggesting that there is no rush, and that love can develop at its own pace.
In the final verse, the singer reflects on the impact the relationship has had on them, how they wanted to know and now they feel stronger. They declare their need for the other person and express gratitude for their presence. Overall, the song is a celebration of the power of love and the joy it brings.
