Lucky
Martti Franca Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lucky you have someone who gets to come back to the places we′d be
Lucky you have someone who holds you at night where my arms should be
While I'm laying by myself
Thinking ′bout where it all went wrong

I don't mind at all
I don't mind, but I do
When did you forget about the last three years

It′s not the first time I′ve loved
But it's the first time it mattered
How do you move on
When what once was so perfect is
Broken and battered

I don′t mind at all
I don't mind, but I do
When did you forget about the last three years

I thought we were jumping together
But someone held your hand
While you let me fall
No kicking, no screaming
Just left with no hope at all

I don′t mind, but I do
I don't mind, but I do

Overall Meaning

The song "Lucky" by Martti Franca is a heart-wrenching ballad about lost love and trying to move on from a broken relationship. The first two lines of the song set the tone, as the singer acknowledges that his former lover has found someone new to share the places and experiences they once enjoyed together. He laments that she has someone to hold her at night, while he is left alone with his thoughts, wondering where things went wrong.

The chorus of the song, with its repeated refrain of "I don't mind, but I do," captures the conflicting emotions that come with trying to accept the end of a relationship. The singer tries to convince himself that he's okay with the situation, but deep down he still feels hurt and betrayed. He wonders how he can move on when everything he once thought was perfect has been shattered.

The final verse of the song reveals the extent of the singer's pain, as he reflects on the moment when he realized his former lover had already moved on. He compares himself to someone who has been left to fall from a great height, with no hope of rescue. Despite this, he continues to reiterate that he doesn't mind, though it's clear that the wound is still fresh and painful.

Overall, "Lucky" is a powerful and emotional testament to the pain of lost love, and the struggle to come to terms with the end of a significant relationship.

Maybe there was a reason why when I first heard this song almost 2 years ago, it felt like there was pain lingering from somewhere even though I was happy that time. Here I am now holding that pain. This song literally translates all that I feel, everything that's happened to me this month. I remember crying to Spaces years ago and now here I am with this song.
