He imagines hearing his mother and Jesus encouraging him to give up control and find peace.

Redemption, like the moon tonight, hangs pretty, soft and low
The possibility of redemption is present, like the moon that can be seen in the sky.

And how it's been up until now don't matter anymore
The past no longer has an impact on the potential for redemption moving forward.

In the middle of this darkness, I see a light that shines
Despite feeling lost and hopeless, he sees a glimmer of hope.

Like a beacon of forgiveness saying, "Pilgrim, all is fine"
This light represents a message of forgiveness, offering reassurance that everything will be okay.

There's one more journey left for me, that's all that's left to do
There is still one thing left for him to do before he can find redemption.

And in the dirt he wrote a simple note that said, "Momma I love you"
He left a heartfelt message for his mother in the dirt as a way of expressing his love for her.
