Let me go
Marvelous 3 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once there was a day
We were together all the way
An endless path unbroken
But now there is a time
A torture less sublime
Our souls are locked and frozen

Once we were years ahead but now those thoughts are dead
Let me go
All hopeless fantasies are making fools of me
Let me go
I walk alone and yet I never say goodbye
Let me go
A change of heart a change of mind and heaven fell that night
Let me go

I tried but could not bring
The best of everything
Too breathless then to wonder
I died a thousand times
Found guilty of no crime
Now everything is thunder

Daytime all I want is
Nighttime I don't need the
Daytime all I want is
Nighttime I don't need the

The best years of our lives
The hope of it survives
The facts of life unspoken
The only game in town
I'll turn the last card down
And now the bank is broken

Found guilty of no crime

They were the best years of our lives
I'll turn the last card down

Overall Meaning

The Marvelous 3's song Let Me Go depicts the feelings of a person who has been in a long-term relationship that has gone sour. The song laments the loss of what used to be a great relationship, but with time, has now reached a point of no return. The first verse starts with a nostalgic tinge that takes us back to a time when everything was perfect, and the future seemed endless. The lines "once we were years ahead, but now those thoughts are dead" clearly signify the death of those dreams and hopes of a never-ending life together. The next set of lines depict a struggle that has been going on for a while. The souls of both parties involved have become locked and frozen, signifying the lack of communication and the breaking down of the relationship.

The chorus that follows seems to capture the frustrations of one of the parties who wants out of the relationship, but for some reason, they are stuck. The lines "All hopeless fantasies are making fools of me, let me go. I walk alone, and yet I never say goodbye, let me go" display the desperation and the state of limbo that the person is in. The desire to leave this situation behind and move on is explicit in the lyrics, but the inability to do so comes across as something beyond their control. The last verse talks about the memories that they both shared but seem to have been erased by time. The facts of life are left unspoken and are now overshadowed by the reality of the present, which is quite the opposite of the past. The line, "they were the best years of our lives, I'll turn the last card down" seems to be a final farewell to the relationship, and the realization that it's over.

SCREAMING NUDES

This was always my favorite song from the album. Such insane song writing talent. First came "Squeeze," Then came "Jellyfish,' Then there was "Marvelous 3" (Butch).......am i right in thinging there is similar musical genius involved? who's with me?!!

David Patel

Every time anyone says the words "let me go" I can't not think of this song. It's engrained in my psyche. Thanks, Butch 😑

Michael Trenier

All. Time. Favorite. Track. Butch is legend 😎🙌🏾

AngryAgain

this band should've been huge

David Patel

Yes..they're the most underrated band of all time, and Butch Walker should be hella famous, like legendary status pop culture icon by now. Arista records dropped the ball not promoting them

WintersAzure

this just brings me back to when i had to stay up really late (which was 1 am at the time) to watch this video on mtv. and after staying awake every night to see it... i think i saw it once in a whole month =/ ...damn i miss this band so much.

jane doe

One of their BEST songs.

T Lanier

Dude when i think of the marvelous three. Only certain words can describe them but gods of the 90's they were they should have been a lot more famous than they were i love butch walker. They should have been mainstream up there with like third eye blind and matchbox 20 Butch especially was a god!...Im proud to say im from georgia.

Colette Nicoll

Maybe they weren't famous BECAUSE the songs were too good? I liked third eye blind - back then, never liked Matchbox 20 (I'm sure they're nice guys but *yawn*) but I've never ever stopped playing Marvelous 3, the songwriting, performance & production is unparalleled. It's like '2nd coming of Jesus is curtailed by his love of Kiss, guitars & Rock Music in general'.
