Don't Stop Believin'
Mary J. Blige & Julianne Hough Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
A singer in a smoky room
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on, and on, and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights, people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on, and on, and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights, people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlights, people
The lyrics to "Don't Stop Believin'" by Mary J. Blige and Julianne Hough tell a story of two individuals from different worlds who find themselves on the same journey. The first verse introduces us to a small town girl and a city boy who both took the midnight train, each with their own unique reasons for leaving their respective hometowns. The second verse takes us to a smoky room where a singer is performing, and the atmosphere is full of wine and cheap perfume, providing a backdrop for the two protagonists to connect.
The chorus, "Don't stop believin', hold onto the feeling," is a call to keep hope alive and persevere through any obstacles that might come their way. The final verse touches on the universal human experience of pursuing dreams and taking risks in the hope of finding fulfillment. While some may win and others may lose, the journey itself can be rewarding and full of surprises.
Ultimately, the song invites the listener to join in on the journey of the small town girl and city boy, reminding us that despite our differences, we are all searching for something in life and that by holding onto hope, we can overcome any challenges that come our way.

Okay seeing this number live I realized that was so wrong with the movie. They did the musical numbers in a campy and funny way.
They should have taken the musical more seriously and do big stuff like we saw here.
Maybe do like Rob Marshall did with Chicago. The musical numbers in the characters heads, so they could have made the musical numbers with great choreographies and great rock costumes.
The only good musical number in the film was wanted dead or alive. And it’s really a shame they didn’t include come on feel the noise. They just did it as an credits presentation. That song should have been on the movie.
And that movie needed more Bon Jovi.
You give love a Bad name or living on a prayer would have been incredible

When this came out I could not convince anyone to see it with me. Had to go alone. No computer generated animation fantasy crap, just singing, acting, and dancing. One of my favs.

Tom Cruise embroiled the character. The combo of Alec, Julianne, Diego and Catherine Zeta Jones made this such a great movie
