Mary and the Black Lamb was formed from the ashes of the golden years of the Oshawa, Ontario music scene. A collaboration between the heavy hitters of the region who dreamed of being worldwide sensations and not just local heroes. The brainchild of Lindz Riot and Nixon Cutz, Mary and the Black Lamb began as a recording project that flourished into an up and coming live music group with the addition of Jordan Caverly, Kyle Cullen, and Scott Brindley. With their ability to combine the hooks and dance-ability of pop music with hard hitting power of metal Mary and the Black Lamb use their fable driven imagery to challenge the notion of “childlike innocence”. On the path of promoting their debut album “As the City Sleeps” Mary and the Black Lamb has been honoured to share the stage with the likes of The Birthday Massacre, Alannah Myles, Johnny Hollow and Daedalean Complex. With a new album slated to be released in 2011, Mary and the Black Lamb are on their way to being Canada’s next big musical sensation.

I'm traveling through
This world of woe
And there's no sickness, no toil or danger
In that bright land
To which I go
I'm going there to see my mother
I'm just a'going over Jordan
I'm just a'going over home
Now one of these mornings
And it won't be long
We all shall rise
And stand side by side
And hand in hand
We're bound for glory
And death shall fall before freedom's tide
I'm going there to see my mother
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just a'going over Jordan
I'm just a'going over home
I'm going there to see my mother
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just a'going over Jordan
I'm just a'going over home
The song "Stranger" by Mary and the Black Lamb is a traditional gospel song that speaks to the idea of life as a journey towards a glorious and peaceful afterlife. The song is sung from the perspective of a wayfaring stranger who is traveling through this world of woe, in search of a brighter land where there is no sickness, no toil or danger. The song talks about the character's journey being one of a poor and struggling traveler, but one who is certain of a better destination.
The first stanza of the song speaks to the idea of being on this earth but not of this earth With all the struggles and pain that comes with it. There is an understanding that the traveler is not in the right place and that it is in a better place where they truly belong The second stanza speaks to the destination of this journey, which is to see the character's mother, who represents a form of salvation, and the line "I'm going there no more to roam" mean that the character will settle down in that land of rest and peace.
The final verse refers to the coming together of all who have taken this journey, as they stand side by side and hand in hand, united by a common goal of crossing to that safe and secure land, where they will indeed have their freedom and death shall not hold them captive. The song's use of "over Jordan" as an image of crossing over into the afterlife is a reference to the river Jordan in biblical history which served as the boundary of the promised land.
Overall, the meaning of the song "Stranger" is that life is a journey that one takes on this earth, but with the hope that it will lead to a better place in the afterlife. The song speaks to the struggles and challenges of such a journey, but ultimately emphasizes the idea of hope, faith, and the belief in a brighter future beyond this life.

I am a poor wayfaring stranger
I am a destitute traveler who is neither accepted nor familiar with those around me
I'm traveling through
This world of woe
I'm journeying through a complicated existence filled with sorrowful experiences
And there's no sickness, no toil or danger
In that bright land
To which I go
There's a bright utopia that I will travel to, where there's no suffering, labor or peril
I'm going there to see my mother
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just a'going over Jordan
I'm just a'going over home
I'm venturing to that haven to reunite with my mother, with no desire to wander any longer, only seeking to cross over to the other side of the river where I'll find home
Now one of these mornings
And it won't be long
We all shall rise
And stand side by side
And hand in hand
We're bound for glory
And death shall fall before freedom's tide
One of these days, relatively soon, we'll all stand together with the force of liberty, leaving death behind on the shores of our triumphant voyage
